N0.188,057, Patented March 6,1877.
UNITED STATEs PATENT OFFICE.
IsAAo N. JUST, OF BELDING, MICHIGAN.
IMPROVEMENT IN HARNESS-TRIMMINGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 188,057, dated March 6, 1877; application filed January 13, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, IsAAo' N. JUST, of Belding, in the county of Ionia and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Combined Terret and Tie-Strap Fastener, of which the following is a specification Figure 1 is a rear view of my improved device. Fig. 2 is an edge view of the same. Fig. 3 is a detail section taken through the line 00 m, Fig. 1.

The object of this invention is to furnish an improved device for securing a tie-strap, which shall be simple in c nstruotion, durable, not liable to get out of order, and reliable and convenient in use, holding the tie-strap securel y, and enabling it to be easily and quickly fastened and unfastened.
The invention consists in a terret provided with a tie-strap fastener; and in the combination of the swinging wedge-block, having its bottom concaved, and provided with a flange along its rear edge, and the extension having the inner side of its bottom bar concaved or fiat with the terret, as hereinafter fully described. v
A represents a terret, upon the lower side of which is formed an extension, at, in which is formed an opening or cavity in which is pivoted a wedge-block, B. The inner side of the bottom bar of the extension is concaved or flat, and the bottom or lower edge of the wedge-block B is concaved, and has a flange, b, formed along the rear side of said bottom,
and projecting sufliciently to prevent said wedge from swinging forward through the cavity in which it is hung. The flange b also serves a twofold purpose. It prevents the rear or free end of the tie-strap from rising, and serves as a handle for the fingers in raising the block B to allow the tie-strap to be withdrawn.
In using the device the free end of the tiestrap is passed through the cavity of the extension a, and is drawn back for a suitable distance. It is then drawn forward and draws the wedge-block B into the cavity of the extension a, and clamps the said tie-strap securely between the lower edge of the said block B, and the bottom barof the extension a.
To unfasten the tie-strap, its free end is drawn to the rearward, which draws back the wedge-block B, so that it may be raised with ISAAC NEWTON JUST.
