Description

PATENT FFICEo JACOB BUTTERFUSS, OF SALAMANCA, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN HAME-CLIPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 194,125, dated August 14, 1877; application tiled July 11, 1877.
1'0 all whom it may concern.- l
Beit known that I, JACOB BU'rrEnFUss, of Salamanca, Cattaraugus county, New York, have invented a new and Improved Hame- Clip,of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 is a longitudinal section of my improved haine-clip, taken through lineas sa, Fig. 2; and Fig. 2 is a front view ofthe same.
Similar letters ot' reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of this invention is to furnish an improved clip for connecting a llame-tug to the hame, which shall be simple in construction, neat and ornamental in appearance, and convenient and reliable in use, holding the haine-tug securely, and enablingit to be readily removed when required.
The invention consists in a hame-clip formed of the two parts, hinged to each other at the outer side of the eye, the L-headed screws, and the nut-bar, said parts being constructed and arranged as hereinafter fully described.
The clip is made in two parts, A B, which are hinged to each other at the outer part ot the eye that receives the haine-staple.
C are two bolts, made with L heads, which pass through the parts A B of the clip, through the hame-tug, and screw into screwholes in the iron strap or nut-bar D, placed against the inner side of the hame-tug.
The parts of the strap D through which the screws C pass are thickened to give a longer bearing to the screws, and to be pressed into the inner side of the haine-tug, to clamp the said tug, and prevent the screwholes from having to sustain the entire draftstrain.
In the outer part A of the clip are formed short slots, of such a size that when the L heads of the screws C are turned forward the said part A of the clip can be turned up oi the said screws, so that the hame-tug can be conveniently taken oi' when required.
When the part Aof the clip is turned down over the screw-heads, and the said heads are turned a half-revolution, bringing them to the rearward, the'various parts of the clip will be securely locked together.
The parts A B may be made in one piece, andthe screws C with round heads, if desired. lVith this construction the screws C, the nutbar D, and the tug must be detached before the clip can be removed from the llame-staple.
Having thus described my inveu tion, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A name-clip formed of the two parts A B, hinged to each other at the outer side ot' the eye,and provided with the L-headed screws C and the nutbar D, said parts being constructed and arranged substantially as herein shown and described.
JACOB BUTTERFUSS.
