Description

L. P FRIESQ y CAST-METAL LAMPw No.187,8`39. rammed Feb.27,1a77.

UNITED STATES PATENT FFICE.

IMPROVEMENT IN CAST-METAL LAMPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 187.839. dated February 27, 1877; application tiled December 13, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LoEENz P. FETES, of the city and county of St. Louis, and State of y Missouri, have invented certain Improvements in Gast-Metal Lamps, of which the following is a specication, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to that class of lamps used by brewers, &c., which are pivoted to a hanger having hook and straight pointed ends, so as to enable it to be either hooked onto or stuck into any convenient object; and my invention consists in casting the lamp in one piece, with opening or openings at the top for the reception ofthe wick-tube.
In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective view. Fig. 2 is a transverse section in line with the trunnions.
The IampbOdy, consisting of the top A, sides B, and bottom O, is cast in one piece of metal. The top A has openings for the reception ot' the wicktube or burner D and a set-screw, D1, passing through au arm, D2, and screwing into the lamp-top, as shown,by which the burner is secured in place. E are trunnions cast on the side of the lamp, and which rest in eyes of the forked hanger F. This hanger has a straight shank, pointed at its upper end f, and has a hook,f, as shown.
By casting the lamp in one piece I ain enabled to make a much cheaper lamp than any at present in use, as no joint is required to be made, except that ofthe burner, which I make with a ground joint; also, my construction is much stronger and less liable to become deranged or inoperative than with the ordinary lamp of this class, in which the whole top screws, or is otherwise fitted, in place.
My lamps may be dropped with impunity, as the oil has no lneans of escape, except by capillary movement through the burner-tubes, and it is hardly possible that any part can be accidentally broken, or even bent.
I claim as my invention- The cast-metal body A B C, burner D, arm D2, and screw D1, for securing the same, all constructed and combined substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
LORENZ P. FBIES.
