Description

UNITED STATES PATENT. QFFIQE,
BENNETT B. SCHNEIDER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN SHADE-HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 187,778, dated February 27, 1877; application filed January 31 1877,
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, BENNETT B. SoHNEI- DER, of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shade-Holders; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable'others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a partof. this specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in shade-holders; and it consists in the combi nation and arrangement of parts, as will be that will best serve the purpose for which said arms are intended. To the top of the arms is rigidly attached the flanged rim 0, for the reception of the base of the shade. Said rimis provided with spring-hooks a, for holding the shade in position when placed in the rim for use. In the spaces D between the arms B is placed glass, mica, 'or any other transparent material that will allow the light reflected by the shade to pass through it.
By thus constructing a shade-holder'it will readily be seen that with a trifling cost an article can be furnished that is very neat in appearance, and much. needed in use, for while the transparent material allows the same amount of light to be reflected by the shade, yet it is in a more modified and softened form, and tends to dispense with the glaring light furnished by shades now in use, which is very injurious to the eye.
Having thus fully described the invention, what is claimed, and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is-
The metallic'shadeholder frame A B 0, adapted to be held in position upon the lamp, and provided with means for holding the shade in position, and also provided with ma terial allowing the passage of light, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
BENNETT B. SCHNEIDER.
