UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN T. FLEEHEARTY, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO SAMUEL B. SEXTON, JR, OF SAME PLACE.
LIGHT FOR STOVE-DOORS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 408,963, dated August 13, 1889.
Application filed February 16, 1889- Serial No. 300,144. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN T. FLEEHEARTY, of the city of Baltimore and State of Maryland, have invented certain Improvements in Lights for Stove-Doors, of which the following is a specification.
This invention consists of a sheet of mica to the outer surface of which colored glass jewels are attached, so as to form a part of the same.
It further consists in means for securing the glass jewels to the mica sheet, as will hereinafter fully appear.
III the further description of the said invention which follows reference is made to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof, and in which- Figure 1 is a front View of the improved light, and Fig. 2 a back or rear View of the same. Fig. 3 is a section of Fig. 1, taken on the dottedline 00 00. Fig. at is a perspective View of the fastening device used to secure the jewels in place.
Similar letters of reference indicate similar parts in all the Views.
Referring to the said drawings, A is a sheet of mica of any appropriate size and shape.
B B are glass jewels of, preferably, semispherical form, with their convex sides faceted. These jewels are held to the outside surface of the mica by means of metallic rings or bands O, having pointed prongs a, which are inserted through slits b in the mica and turned toward the center of the ring, so as to not be visible. The jewels are arranged in 5 any desired manner, and they may be all of a common size, or of different sizes, as preferred. The slits b are easily cut in the mica sheet with a knife or other sharp instrument.
It will be understood that the mica, being 0 practically fire-proof, protects the glass j ewels from the directinfluence of the fire, while it does not obstruct the light.
The mica sheets prepared as described are sold ready for application to stove-doors, and when in position and the stove in operation give a pleasing effect.
I claim as my invention- 1. As a new article,a sheet of mica having affixed to its outside surface a colored glass jewel, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
2. In combination with a sheet of mica, a glass jewel placed against its outer side and a ring which surrounds the said jewel, having prongs which pass through slits in the said sheet and are turned radially inward, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
JOHN T. FLEEHEARTY.
