DESIGN.
Ann-n-- WINDOW SHADE.
Patented Aug. 1. 1876.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
BRAINARDGr. LATIMER, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
DESlGN FOR WINDOW-SHADES.
Specification forming part of Design No. 9,412, dated August 1, 1876; application filed July 12, 1876. [Term of Patent 7 years.]
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BRAINARD G. LATIMER, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have originated and designed a Pattern for Window-Shades, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accom panyingdrawing, making part of this specification.
The nature of my design is fully represented in the accompanying drawing, to which reference is made; and consists in a shade of any suitable fabric material, having a transparent border-band. The body of the shade may be of any desired color or form, and there may be an edging of gilt about said transparent band; or this edging may be changed to any other style than gilt, or same may be omitted entirely.
The essential characteristic of my invention consists in placing a light transparent band in the body of the shade fabric, near the edge thereof, but at a sufficient distance from same as to allow of the relief in color being shown in full.
A is the shade, having its extreme borderedge A of same material and color as the main body of the shade. Intermediate the body and the edge of the shade is the transparent border-band B, which is in proportion to the re maining portions of the shade, substantially as shown in the drawing, and is placed at about the same position relative to them.
The body of the shade and the edging A may be plain or ornamental, and of any suitable dark composition; but the border-piece B consists simply of alight transparent band or wide strip, so as to form a strong contrast with the shade fabric proper. O is an edgeworking, of gilt or other suitable coloring, inclosing the band B on either side of samepvhich edging 0 may itself have a dark strip, 1), running parallehand on either side thereof, whereby a pleasing appearance is imparted to the entire design from the variance of color.
What I claim as my invention is-- l. A design for window-shades having a transparent border-band, substantially in the manner above described.
2. The combination, in a window-shade, of dark body A and transparent band B with the gilt strip 0, having the surrounding black line D, substantially as and for the purpose described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 10th day of July, 1876.
