Patented Sept. 6, 1932 PATENT OFFICE MARTA RYFF, OF BERN, SWITZERLAND,
SWITZERLAND, A CORPOR ASSIGNOR TO RYFF a; co. A.-G., or 13mm,
ATION OF SWITZERLAND GARMENT Application filed August 29, 1931, Serial No.
This invention relates to garments for sports and bathing purposes, and has for one of its objects to provide an improved con struction of bathing costume which shall not restrict the freedom of movement of the body of the wearer.
According to the invention there is provided a garment of the kind described comprising a lower part that extends upwards and an upper part which is connected with the lower part only by narrow strips or bands and serves simultaneous- 1y as a brassiere. This garment has the ad vantage that when it is being worn a large part of the thorax remains uncovered and is therefore freely exposed to light and air. In addition, the body has unrestricted freedom of movement.
According to a feature of the invention, the upper part comprises two flaps which are connected fixedly with one of said bands, e. a front band, and detachably with another band, e. g. a rear band.
One embodiment of the invention is diagrammatically illustrated by way of ex ample in the accompanying drawing, wherein 2- Figure l is a bathing costume according Figure 2 is a rear elevation Figure 3 is a front elevation showing upper part of the garment open.
Like reference characters designate like parts in all the views.
Referring to the drawing, the garment, which may be used for sports or bathing purposes, comprises a lower part 1 which is in the form of a pair of drawers and is so long that when worn it extends only up to the hips of the wearer. L arrow bands or strips 2 and 3 extend respectively at the front and rear upwards from the top of the part 1. The upper part of the garment constitutes a brassiere and is attached by sewing to the front elevation of one form of to the invention, thereof, and the i band or strip 2. This upper part comprises two substantially triangular flaps 4 which can be buttoned or otherwise detachably fastened to the band or strip 3 on the inner side thereof, as shown in Figure 2. As shown in the drawing, the front band 2 is preferably 560,093, and in Switzerland July 23, 1931.
shaped like an arrow-head in order that the upper part of the garment shall fit the wearer well. Shoulder straps 5 are sewn to the flaps 4: at the upper parts thereof and to the rear band 3. As shown in Figure 3, the ends of the flaps 4 are in the form of narrow lugs 6 in which button-holes are fashioned for receiving buttons on the band 3.
In consequence of the described construction of the garment, when it is being worn a large part-of the thorax is left free and exposed to light and air. Moreover, the described article of wearing apparel assures unrestricted freedom of movement to the body of the wearer.
Various modifications may be made in the details of construction described above without departing from the invention. For example, press studs or other fasteners may be used for securing the brassiere in its closed position.
I claim:
1. A.- garment, comprising in combination a lower part constituting a pair of drawers, and an upper part constituting a brassiere connected with said lower part only by two vertical narrow bands, said upper part comprising two flaps each fixedly connected with one of said bands and adapted to be attached to the other band. 80
2. A garment comprising a lower part in the shape of drawers and provided at the front and rear with upwardly extending narrow bands, and an upper part in the shape of a brassiere and fixedly attached to one of said bands, and means on said upper part for detachably connecting it to said other band.
3. A garment as specified in claim 2, including shoulder straps secured to said upper part and to the rear band.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
MARTA RYFF.
