UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIoE.
GEORGE O. BANTA, OF KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI.
IMPROVEMENT IN CARPET-STRETCHERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 187,345, dated February 13, 1877 application filed September 16, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE C. BANTA, of Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented a new and useful. Improvement in Oarpet-Stretchers, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings.
This invention has relation to carpetstretchers, and the novelty consists'in the construction and arrangementof the parts, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
Figure 1 is a perspective View of my im- Figs. 2, 3, and 4 are detail views of the same.
In the accompanying drawings, A and B represent two pieces, sliding in opposite directions through the bands 0 and D. The
' pieces A and B are provided upon their upper faces with pulleys G and H, arranged within a suitable casin g H represents a double pulley, which I prefer to attach to the section B, as it isthe power section. At the forward end-of the'section B a plate, L, is attached, which has a vertical wall, m, to which plate is pivoted a pawl or dog, J, havinga serrated eccentric face. To the under side of the section B is also pivoted a holding claw, E, having a series of teeth or projecting points,
which engage with the carpet. The holdingclaw B rests in a mortised depression, K, and an oscillatory motion is imparted to it by means of the rounding shoulder K, formed in the depression to conform to any angles in the room. The letter I represents a rope fastened at the foot of the pulley G; thence passing around the lower one of the double pulleys; thence diagonally across, and around the pulley G; thencerbackward and around the upper pulley H. The rope is passed from the upper pulley H to the upper end of the stretcher, and held in place by means of the clamping-dog J, as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings.
The carpetstretcher can be lengthened by adding the joint and section shown in Figs. 3 and 4 of the drawing. I
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of the movable sections A B, and pulleys G H, with rope I, head E, and clamp J, placed above said head E, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
GEORGE G. BANTA.
