Description

W. C. STOKES.
BOTTLE PROTECTOR. No.186,635. Patented Jan. 23 1877.
UNITED res WILLIAM G. STOKES, OF GRASS VALLEY, CALIFORNIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN BOTTLE-PROTECTORS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 186,635, dated January 23, 1877 application filed October 14, 1576.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM CHARLES STOKES, of Grass Valley, county of Nevada and State of California, have invented a Protector for Bottles while Uncorking; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear,
and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing.
My invention relates to a novel device for protecting the operator from accident, while in the act of uncorking a bottle.
My invention, which I call the bar-keepers friend, consists of a suitably-formed case which incloses and holds the bottle, and may have lugs so that it can be held by the feet, while the cork is withdrawn from the bottle.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, for a more complete explanation of my invention, Figure l is a perspective view of my invention.
To accomplish my object I form a case of two halves, A and B, which are hinged together at one edge, while at the other meeting-edges I form a clasp, G, or other means of holding the halves together when closed.
This case is made of asize large enough to fit a large champagne-bottle, and it has two lugs, D, projecting from opposite sides of the bottom rim, so that after the bottle has been inserted into the case, the feet can be placed upon the lugs, and the whole held firmly in place until thecork has been withdrawn.
By this device the operator is protected from the danger of maiming, or even loss of life from the breakage of a bottle, which he may attempt to open, an accident which often happens.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as-new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A protecting case for bottles, constructed as described, and consisting of the parts AB, hinged together at one edge, and provided with the clasp O and lugs D, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal.
WILLIAM CHARLES STOKES. [L.
