CLOTHES-CLAMP.
Specification of Letters Patent N o.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it knovvn that I, LEWIS H. CUSHMAN, of Monmouth, in the county of Kennebec and State of Maine, have invented a new and Improved Clothes Clamp, which improvement Will also apply to Shoemaker-s or harnessmakers clamps; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and eXact description of the same, reference being made to the accompanying drawings.
Figure l represents a section of the clamp when open. Fig. 2 represents the clamp when shut. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the clamp when in use upon the clothes-line.
Figs. l and :2 a a are the cheeks 0r body of the clamp made of Wood 0r metal. Z) is the spring, consisting` of a metallic Wire or rod, bent as represented in Fig. 4. c is the lever, held in its place by the staple d. This lever 18,632, dated November 17, 1857.
has a cam shaped end next to the clamp and the staple passes loosely through the first cheek and is firmly fixed in the second.
Operation: To open the clamp, place the lever c at right angles to the cheek of the clamp as represented in Fig. l. The spring b then throws the cheek or jaw open. To close it, press the lever clovvn to the cheek as shown in Fig. 2. The cam shaped end presses the aWs together.
