Description

june 1932.
Fi led July 2,
ENVENTOR WXTNESS Patented June?, 1932 PATENT OFFICE FENt'TON WRIGHT, 0F KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI GARIMENT FASTEN'IER Application filed July 2,
This invention relates to garment fasteners and more particularly to fasteners for garments to he laundered.
A primary object of the invention is to provide fasteners which will pass through the laundry Without injury and will not only securely fasten the garment but Will present an attractive unique appearance.
Another obj ect is to provide cloth fasteners as a substitute for buttons which are so constructed as to effectively lock the parts against accidental separation.
ln carrying out these objects, the invention is susceptible of a wide range of modification 13 Without departing from the spirit or sacriicing any of the advantages of the claimed invention; there being shown in the drawing for illustrative purposes a preferred and practical form, in which:
Figure represents a front elevation of a shirt equipped with these improved fasteners;
Fig. 2 is a transverse section taken on the line 2 2 of Fig. l;
n Fig. 3 is a similar view taken on the line 3 3 of Fig. l; and
Fig. 4 is a front elevation on a small scale showing a slightly different application of the invention.
The garment fastener constituting this invention may be used on any garment, but is here shown applied to a shirt for fastening the front portion and the cuffs. rlhe fastener comprises a reinforced tongue l0 having a pliable connecting element 11 at its rear end which is designed for uniting the tongue to the garment at one side of the placket thereof. This connector 11 is stitched to the placket edge either at the top or at t-he front or anywhere else it is desired to use it and is of sufficient length to permit the stiffened tongue portion l0 to be threaded through the y button holes l2 which are preferably arranged in pairs along the placket as shown in Fig. l or three or more may be used on the cuff arranged longitudinally in spaced relation and extending transversely of the cud'. It is of course understood that the fastening tongue is attached to one side of the placket of the garment to he secured and the button holes at the other side thereof as shown and 1930. Serial No. 465,424.
that this tongue may be threaded through the button holes in any suitable or desired manner, for instance, When used on the cuff it may be passed through the button hole nearest the placket edge as shown in Fig. 2 then underneath the next buttonhole and out through the third then back through the second and out through the first, or as shown at the left of Fig. l it may be threaded through the button hole passing under the cuff and out through the third button hole then through the second and out through the first. rllhe tongue 10 preferably has its rear end 13 extended beyond the point of connection With the flexible connector strap 11 as shown clearly in Fig. l so that lWhen the tongue is threaded through the button hole this projection 13 will extend over the Wall of the button hole and securely lock the device in operative engagement.
It Will thus be seen that these fasteners will pass through the laundry Without crushing; will have tenacious holding qualities; may be. easily fastened and unfastened and yet present a neat attractive appearance when in 'use and may be used as markers for the goods having initials embroidered on their outer faces or names Written on the under faces.
ln the form shown in Fig. 4 the only difference is that the fasteners are arranged longitudinally of the flap member F instead of transversely thereof as shown in the other figures and the parts are correspondingly numbered except that the component a is used in connection with them.
Without further description it is thought that the features andv advantages of the invention will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art, and it Will, of course, be understood that changes in the form, proportion and minor details of construction may be resorted to, Without departing from the spirit of Ithe invention or its scope as claimed.
I claim: v
1. The combination with a garment having a placket With a plurality of spaced button holes at one side and a stifened tongue connected with the other side and adapted to be threaded through said button holes, said 2 4 1,an1,sno
tongue having e longitudinal projection at one end to engage the button hole and hold the device securely in locked position.
2. The combination of a garment having e 5 placket with a plurality of spaced button holes at one side and a sti'ened tongue connected with the other side and adapted to be threaded through said button holes, said tongue having a flexible attaching strip pro- 10 vided with a. longitudinal projection et the junction of the 'tongue with the strip, said projection overlyin the strip.
