To all whome't may concern:

Be it known that I, LOUIS MORINSKY, a citizen of Russia, and a resident of the city of New York, county of Bronx, and 'State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Buttonhole-Strips, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention relates to buttonhole strips; more particularly, to that class of said strips provided with fastener members at intervals thereon.

The object of my invention is to provide tapes having male and female fasteners spaced at intervals with new and improved means *for securing these fasteners in proper position. The use of such strips is old but my invention resides in the means of attaching the fastener members thereto. Up to the present time, no satisfactory method has been devised for securing fastener parts to these strips securely and economically.

rlhe above noted ends are attained in my invention by placing the fastener (female member) in a central annular opening in a small blank of relatively heavy fabric, card board or other suitable material and sewing this blank between the two sections of a tape folded along its longitudinal center.

By this construction the fastener member is not directly connected to the tapeonly indirectly through the small positioninfr blank. No operation, therefore, is required upon the metal in order to attach the fastener 'to the strip. Further, the fastener member is practically wholly concealed within the tape and hence is protected against rust from perspiration and is not so liable to catch upon various parts of the wearing apparel and be torn from its seat.

The above and other features and objects of my invention, such as its extreme simplicity, durability and consequent manufacturing advantages will be apparent from the following description, claims and accompanying drawings in which- Figure l is a view of a length of a strip to Evhich are secured the female fastener memers;

ln the-preferred embodiment of my invention shown inthe accompanying views, l indicates a strip for holding female fastener members, saidstrip being folded along its longitudinal center, 2 and having inserted therein at intervals between its two folded sections small squares, 3, of relatively heavy fabric, card board, Or other comparatively heavy material. As will be observed, these blanks or squares have centrally located annular openings, 4, registering with openings, 5, in one section of the two ply strip and within the openings in the positioning blanks (after the insertion of the same betweenh the two plies of the strip) are placed the female fastener members, F (Fig. 4). The strip is subsequently stitched along its edges, as indicated at 6, the stitching catching the outer edges of the positioning blanks thus preventing movement of the blanks and the fasteners within the strip. It should also be noted that in the several views, the edges of the strip are shown as hemmed which is done prior to the folding in order to guard against fraying of the edges of the tape.

Referring now to Fig. 5, 7 isv the male fastener strip folded along its longitudinal center 8 and incasing in between its two pies or faces the shank of the male fastener The strip is stitched along its edges as shown at 10 in order to guard against the unfolding or opening up of the same but is not shown as provided with the apertured squares of the female strip, for as is obvious the same are not required to prevent move,- ment of the male member within the strip.

This blank could, however, be readily in- 10o serted if desired within the malefastener strip.

The openings 5 in the strip and the fasn there is no direct connection between the fastener and the strip, the fastener being merely dropped into the aperture in the positioning blank which blank is then sewed within the ta e by the lines of stitching, 6. Further, abso utely nol operation is required upon metal in order to securely attach the fastener to the tape.

It should also be noted that the female fastener lies wholly within the strip and hence is not so liable to rust or to be caught in various objects and be torn from-its seat.

Finally, the blanks which serve as seats and positioning members for the fasteners do not extend the entire length of the strip but are located only at intervals thereon, thereby leaving' the intervening parts of the tape as flexible as possible so that the same may be used upon very thin garments. l am aware that it is old in the art to weave pockets on the strip at suitable intervals but this necessitates the use of a specially woven tape whereas in my construction ordinary tape may be used and yet l stiffen my strip only at intervals and not along its entire length.

My invention is not restricted to the specific forms shown in the accompanying drawings but as to its scope is defined by the annexed claims.

l. A multi-ply fastener strip, spaced fastener positioning means located wholly between the' plies and means for securing the fastener positioning means to the strip.

2. A multi-ply buttonhole strip, fastener members therein, separate4 apertured fastener holding means between two plies of said strip and means independent of the fasteners for attaching said holding means to said strip. l

3. A buttonhole strip, spaced apertured blanks attached thereto and fastener members seated in the apertures of said blanks.

l. A buttonhole strip, apeitured fabric blanks attached at intervals thereto and fastener members seated within the apertures of said blanks.

5. A two ply fastener strip, apertured fastener positioning means located between the two plies of said strip, fastener members seated within said apertures and means for attaching said positioning means to said.
