This invention relates to window sash locks and has for one of its important objects to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a device of this character embodying a construction and arrangement of parts whereby both the upper and lower sashes of a window may be expeditiously secured simultaneously in any adjusted position.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a window sash lock including means for rigidly locking the upper and lower sashes together and further having means for looking or securing said lower sash to the window frame in which the same is slidably mounted.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a window sash lock of the character set forth which will be simple in construction, strong, durable, efiicient in its use and which may be manufactured at low cost.
All of the foregoing and still further objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from a study of the following specification, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and wherein Figure 1 is a perspective view showing a window sash lock constructed in accordance with this invention mounted on a window and in operative position.
Figure 2 is a view in front elevation of the invention.
Figure 3 is a top plan view partly broken away in horizontal section of the device.
Figure 4 is a rear end elevation thereof.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the reference character 1 designates the frame of the window in which the lower and upper sashes 2 and 3, respectively, are slidably mounted. The upper sash 3 is disposed between the parting strip 4 and the outer guide strip 5 and the lower sash 2 is mounted between the parting strip 4 and the inner guide strip 6. As usual, the sashes 2 and 3 are provided withthe meeting rails 7 and 8 respectively at their adjacent ends.
Mounted on one end portion of the upper side of the meeting rail 7 of the sash 2 is a horizontally disposed metallic bar 9 having a foot or base portion 10 disposed on the top of said meeting rail and provided with a transverse slot or recess 11 in its free edge'for the reception of a securing screw 12 which is anchored in the meeting rail 7. vertically disposed and is substantially flush with the'inner-vertical face of the meeting rail 7, as, illustrated to advantage in Figures 1 and 3 of the drawings.
At its outer end, the bar 9 provid'edwith an upstanding enlargement 13 formed integrally thereon and 'havinglaterally projecting teeth 14 on its free marginal portion adapted to bite into the inner side of the guide strip 6, said enlargement 13 constitut? ing one of a pair of jaws. The j aw13 is provided, on the end thereof remote from the bar 9, with an integral right angularly disposed extension 15 which extends in opposed relation to the adjacent space ofthe frame 1.

A screw 27 is mounted for rotation through the forward wall of the casing 24 and is provided with a threaded shank 28 upon which is mounted a wedge member 29 adapted for engagement with the cams 35 and 26 in a manner to cause the spreading of the jaws to locking position. On its outer end the screw 27 is provided with a winged head 30 to facilitate the operation of said screw.
When the screw is actuated in a manner toengage the Wedge 29 with the cams 35 and 26, the teeth let and 20 on the jaws 13 and 16,
respectively, are caused to bite into the inner side strip 6 and the parting ,strip l andthe lower sash 2 may thus be secured in any desired position in the window frame. As the inner jaw 16 moves into engagement with the j V 5 parting strip '4 the spur wheel 22 is engaged withthe upper sash 3 and in this manner the upper sash is rigidly secured to the lower I sash inan'y desired position relative thereto.
It'is believed that the many advantages of window sash lock constructed in accordance with fthi's invention will be readily understood, and although the preferred embodiment of the invention is as illustrated and described, it is to beunderstood that changes 25- in the details of construction 'may be had I which will fallwithin the scope of the invention as claimed,
