\ f WIND OXV-SASH LUCK.
Application filed May 2d, 19261. Serial o. 715,580.
Be it known that l, PATRICK, J. OBninn? a citizen ot' Newfoundland, and a resident of Bay Bulls.Newfoundland, have invented a. new and Improved lVindow-Sash Lock, of which the following is a (full, clear, and exact description.
This invention has relation to locking' devices and has particular reference to a locking' device for'window sashes.
The present invention con-templates for its principal object a sash lock which 'further constitutes a means for moving the sash.
The invention furthermore comprehends a sash lock which functions to retain the sash in open position aswell as inv a closed posi tion, whereby the window may be eieetually loclred in a partially open position and against movement to a 'further open position from the exterior.
As a. still further object the invention reA sides in the provision of e sash lock and lifting device which is extremely simple in. its construction and mode oi operation, inexpensive.` to manufacture and produce7 highly eilicient in its purpose, and capable or being readily applied to or removed from thevsash.
With the above recitedv and other objects in view7 the invention resides in the novel construction set forth in the following specication, particularly pointed out in the appended claim and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, it being understood that the right is reserved to embodiments other that those actually illustrated herein to the full extent indicated by the .general meaning of the terms in which. the. claim is expressed. l
1n the drawingse n i" Figure 1 afview; illustrating the sash locking devices vconstrueted in accordance with the invention in'applied position.
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary enlarged view thereolE with partscshown in section.
Fig. 3 is transverse sectional view taken approximately on the line indicated at 3-3 in Fig. 2.
Fig. L1 is a horizontal sectional view teken ap roximately on" the line M of Fig. 2.
llig. 5 is altace view of the stationary section of the sash locking member.
.Referring togthe drawings by characters of reference', A designates generally a win dow sash which 'includes side rails B mountedein the window frame C for vertical sliding movements and 'retained iii-place by the retaining strips or window Stop ele- 4 ments l). y
The sash locking device constituting the invention consists of a. latch member having Gti astationary section and a movable section 11, the former being stationarily mounted on the inner face of the side rail B andthe latter being mounted upon the stationary member for lateral or transverse swinging movement. As illustrated the means for mounting the sections consistot a screw 12 which passes through alignedopeninns in the sections 1()v and 11 and is anchored in the side rail B of the sash and a pin 13 which passes through the stationary section 10 and is anchored in thev side rail B. The outer section 11r is slotted a's 'at 14 to receive the pin 18 which further serves as a stop element for limiting the latter swinging movement of the section 11. Adjacent its lower end 'the latch section 11 is provided with laterally projecting locking lugs 15 and with forwardly projecting manipulating handle 16. rThe inner side face of the retaining'strip or window stop member D is provided with a pluralityof yspaced keeper openings 1'? preferably lined by a metallic plate 18 having openings 19 aligning with the keeper openings 17.
'1n use and operation of the device the manipolatingI handle 16 serves both as a means for swingingthe .etch section 11 to engage and disengage the locking lugs 15 in the keeper openings and as a means for raising or lowering the sash.. Preferably two of the devices are employed 1n connection with each sash as illustrated in Fig. 1. When .it is desired to raise and lock the sash, the handles 16 are grasped and the latch sections 11 are swung laterally inward as illustrated in dotted lines in Fig. 2, there bydisengaging the locking lugs 15 from tli keeper openings, after which the windowv sash may be raised or lowered to the desired point, the sections 11 being swung laterally the keeper openings.
1t is to be understood outward to engage the locking lugs 15A with that thel device may be applied in ari vinverted position relative to theposition shown in the drawing with# out departing from tion.
I claim: t A window sash locking device comprising a latch member including a stationary the spirit of theinven-I section. and a ylaterali -gngmble section each of the latch Sections for pivotelly assrnounted on the side ra mf t sash, sociatin the movable section with the sash, a locking lug on the movable ,seg-ign? L Ae slotte portion in the opposite end of the keeper platecarred by the vwindow frame Ill/WW1? Sectlon and a Common m921115- 9X' and having a, plurality of vertically spaced telldlzllg ,ftlllrqugh Sald Slotted portion `and keeper openings for receiving .the locking through the Stationery Section for holding lug, e handle member constituting respecthe letter Seilifm flgili mAOYQmeD? aHOI tively a means for eeggjng en agement and onstltutmg e stop to lumi; the laterel sW1ngdisengagement of the lug wit the keeper 111g .movement 0f lll@ llOYabl SGCIOD- openings and for moving the e common means extending through 011e @RQ @j i PATRICK J.
