Description

N. HOTZ.
DEVICE F011 MENDING BLIND-SLAM.
No.185,179. Patented Dec.1z,1a7s.
TN E GRAPHIC CDJLY UNITED STATES PATENT @EETGE NICHOLAS HOTZ, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN DEVICES FOR MENDING BLIND-SLATS.
specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 185,179, dated December 12, 1876 application tiled May 25, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Beit known that I, NICHOLAS Horz, of Brooklyn, in the county ot' Kings and State ot' New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Device for Mending Blind-Slats; and I do hereby declare that the following is at'ull, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure 1 represents a blind-slat with my improved device connected thereto 5 Figs. 2 and 3, detached views.
Great annoyance has been occasioned by the slats of blinds becoming displaced on account of the breaking ot' the wooden pivots formed on the ends of the slats, which frequently results from defects in the grain of the wood, or the rotting of the same, and from many other causes.
1t is the object and purpose of the present invention to Vprovide a simple and cheap device that may take the place of the wooden pivot ofthe slat when broken, and which may be readily attached to the end ofthe slat. The invention, therefore, consists in. a plate, stamped or otherwise formed from a single piece of suitable metal, with one or more spurs, which are afterward bent up, to provide a means by which the same may be attached to the blind-slat, and two lips that are bent around to form the pivot, as will be hereinafter more fully described.
In the accompanying drawings, A represents a blind-slat ofthe ordinary construction, formed at one end With the common wooden pivot a, and to the other end is attached my improved device, as represented at B, which takes the place of the wooden pivot, when broken. The device, as will he seen by reference to Fig. 2 ofthe drawings, is stamped, or may be otherwise formed ot' a single piece of sheet metal, with one or more spurs. I), and a plate, c, with lips d. After having been .thus stamped or cut from the metal, the spur or spurs b are bent up at right angles to the plate c, and the lips d bent around in cylindrical form, thus forming a pivot, which takes the place of the wooden pivot of the slat when it becomes broken.
In attaching my improved device to the end ot' the slat, the spur or spurs a are driven through the same, and afterward clinched upon the other side.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
As a new article of manufacture, the device B, for mending hlind-slats, consisting of the plate c, with spur or spurs b and lips d, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own invention I affix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
NICHOLAS HOTZ. Witnesses:
WM. HARsEN, CHAUNOY PERRY.
