Description
UTTED STATES PATENT QEETGE.
JOHN G. LINDSEY, OF ASHEVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA.
IMPROVEMENT IN CLOTHES-POUNDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 184,787, dated November Q8, 1876 application led October 30, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it lknown that I, JOHN G. LINDSEY, of Asheville, in the county of Buncombe and State of North Carolina, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Clothes-Washer, ot' which the following is a specitication:
Figure l is a vertical section of my improved machine, taken through the line x m, Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a bottom View ofthe same.

' The object of this invention is to furnish an improved device for washing clothes in an ordinary wash-tub, and which shall be simple in construction, convenient in use, and effect-v ive in operation.
The invention consists in the combination ofthe two concentric cases, the tube, the connecting-straps, and the bent tube, provided with the holes, with each other, as hereinafter fully described.
A is the outer case, which is made in the shape of an inverted funnel, and within which, and concentric therewith, is placed the inner case B. The inner case B is made in the shape of an inverted pan, and the flare of its sides is such that they may be parallel with the sides ot' the outer case A. To the center of the top of the inner caso B is attached the end of a tube, C, which passes outthrough, and is secured to, the apex of the outer case A. The tube C is designed to receive a wooden handle. The lower edges of the two cases A B are connected and held in their proper relative position by four, more or less, straps, D, secured to them. E is a U-shaped tube, the ends of which are passed through, and are secured to, the top ot' the inner case B, upon the opposite sides of, and equally distant from, its center. The bend ot' the tube E projects below the lower edges of the two cases A B, and in its lower part, upon the opposite sides of its bend, are formed two holes,
e', as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. With this construction, when the device is thrust down upon the clothes in the tub, the spaces within the cases A B are filled with air, which air and the water gathered into the space between the cases A Bare forced through the tube E into and through the clothes, so that the said clothes will be washed quickly and thoroughly.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination of the two concentric cases A B, the tube G, the connecting-straps D, and the bent tube E, provided with the holes c', with each other, substantially as herein shown and described.
