Description

P. RA ND.
'SHUTTER FASTENERS.
l Patented NoV.Z8,1876.

-inverted vertical section,
PATENT OFFICE FRANKLIN P. RAND, OF PAWTUCKET, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-'HALE E1s EIGHT TO ADDISON RHODES, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.
IMPROVEMENT IN SHUT'l'ER-FASTENINGS.
S pecication forming part of Letters Patent No. 184.726, dated November 28, 1876; application tiled October 5, .1676.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, FRANKLIN?. RAND, ot' Pawtucket, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and useful Improvement inA Self- Locking Blind-Catch. which improvement is fully set forth in the following' specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
The object ot' my invention is to prevent window-blinds from being opened from the outside. It relates to a self-acting blind-lock and-blind-catch` combined, which, when applied to a blind, cannot be unlocked from the outside, but may be locked from the outside or inside of a window.
The novelty ot' my invention consists in connecting the bars of the lock and catch iu a vertical hinge-joint, and the catches take over a nail or projection on the fastening, which is secured to the building, and which nail orprojection, when the instelling has been screwed into the building, may be driven and will prevent the fastening from turning. Figure l is a side elevation, and Fig. 2 an of. my invention. Figs. 3 and Ltare views of fastening with projections or nails to prevent from turning.
Fig. l: A' A' is a barrel with flange G'.
This barrel is cast in two parts and inserted in the blind. B' is a latch, which operates vertically by means of a pivotal joint, K'. C' is a catch, which operates horizontally but not perpendicularly. D' is a catch, secured to the sill ofthe window-frame. a' a' are projections cast on catch C'. b' is a pin. c' is a spring. F3 is a catch, secured to the building.
Figs. 3 and 4: H3, nail or projection bent up, to permit the screw to be turned into the building; H, nail or projection driven into the building.
Operation: The self-acting blind-lock and blind-catch beingv constructed with vertical and horizontal hinge, as herein shown and described, and secured to a blind, as also shown, its operation may be noted. When the blind is closed, B' is held down on D' by spring c', and is free to reciprocate' horizontally over and on D'with C', but cannot be unlocked from the outside, as C' has no vertical or perpendicular motion.
'What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The self-acting blind lock and catch, with l barrel A'A' and ange'G', latch B', and hinge K', permitting vertical movement to said latch B', and lateral inoveinent'to the latch O', .with n'o'ections a' a' all constructed combined l 7 7 7 and operating as set forth and described, for
the 'purpose specified.
