The invention relates to improvements in a combined anvil and vise for the use of harness- Inakers, tinners, farmers, and others; and the invention consists of an anvil to which the vise is secured between projecting side guides by a fastening-screw, the vise bearing, by a lateral shoulder, on the top of the anvil.
In the drawing, A represents an anvil, that is bolted to a suitable base-block and attached to and connected with the vise B at the end opposite the horn. The vise B is fitted accurately between guide-rails a at both sides of the anvil-body, and attached by a fasteningscrew, b, passing through vise and anvil. A lateral projecting shoulder or flange, d, bears on the top of the anvil, and secures, in connection with the side rails, the rigid attachment of anvil and vise, without danger of getting loose and separated.
The jaws O of the vise are operated by a screw-bolt, D, and a nut inthe screw, which turns on the screw-bolt. The screw-bolt D passes through the fixed jaw of the vise and the anvil, and is secured by its head, either fixed or loosely, to the anvil. The movable jaw is adjusted to the work in the customary manner by a crank-handle applied to the screw-cap, and opened by a strong spiral 'spring placed around the connecting screwbolt D.
The cast-iron jaws O are made with caststeel faces 0, that are secured by dovetail joints to the jaws, resting on lateral shoulders e at the lower edges of the jaws. The faces G are thus retained securely in position without getting loose or dropping out by use,"
which forms a great advantage in the use of the vise.
The combined anvil and vise works with great facility, clamps the work in tight manner, has no detachable parts, and forms a strong and durable implement for the difi'erent uses to which it is applied.
Having thusdescribed myinvention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The combination of an anvil, having side guide-rails, with the stationary jaw of a vise,
said jaw having a projecting shoulder bearing on the top part of the anvil, and being attached by one or more fastening screw-bolts, I
substantially in the manner described, and for the purpose specified.
