Description
UNITED STATES PATENT CFFICE. v
RICHARD W. OWEN, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN SHAWL-STRAP BUCKLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 184,295, dated November 14, 1876 application filed April 21, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RICHARD W. OW'EN, of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented an Improvement in Shawl-Strap Buckles.
. as are claimed as new and are desired to be secured by Letters Patentof the United States.
My invention relates to that class of buckles which are made use of for connecting the ends of shawl-straps; and the nature thereof consists in certain improvements in the construction of the same, hereinafter shown and described.
In the accompanying plate of drawings, in which corresponding parts are designated by the same letters, Figure 1 illustrates the handle, buckles, and straps as combined together when in use. Fig. 2 is a detached View of the buckle.
The handle A is provided with curvilinear arms, a, at the end of which are the buckles B. The sides of the frame of the buckle are connected by the bridge or cross-bar b, which is arranged at a sufficient distance from the frame to allow two thicknesses of the strap to pass between the said frame and the said bridge. A post, d, having an upwardly-projecting point, d, and a downwardly'projecting point, 61, is formed upon the central part of the said bridge. The upwardlyextending point extends a little above the sides'ot' the frame. The said post is passed through an elongated aperture in the strap until the point d is caught therein. The strap is then passed around the shawl and through the buckle, between the frame thereof and the bridge. The upper point d is passed through the proper hole in the strap, which readily adjusts itself in position.
Having described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States- The buckles B, having a bridge, 7), post 61, upwardly-projectin g point 61, and downwardlyprojecting post 11, combined with the curvilinear arms of the handle A, as and for the purposes described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoingI have hereunto set my hand.
RICHARD W. OWEN.
