Description

U.BALLART. l WEET TUNNINN` ATTACHMENT Ton TLoWs. a184,030. Y Patented Nqv.'7, 1876.
` adjustable lever.
UNTTED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
URIAH BALLARD, OF RICHMOND, ASSIGNOR TO JOSHUA BALLARD, OF
` CENTRE VALLEY, INDIANA.
IMPROVEMENT IN WEED-TURNING ATTACHMENTS FOR PILOWS.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 184,030, dated November 7, 1876 application led August 21, 1876.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, URIAH BALLARD, of Richmond, county of Wayne and State of Indiana, have invented certain Improvements in VVeedTurning Attachments for Plows, of which the following is a specification:
My invention relates t-o attachments for plows, by the means of which weeds and other rubbish are turned into the furrow and covered up by the plow, the object being accomplished by means ot' a curved spring-lever attached to or swung to the beam of the plow, as hereinafter more fully described.
Figure l is a perspective view of aplow with my invention attached thereto. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the clamp which holds the apparatus to the beam of the plow. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the curved adjustable lever as attached to its pendent adjustable holder. Fig. 4 is a perspective view ol' the adjustable spring-holder, by which the spring is made to bear with greater or less tension upon the curved lever, by which the weeds are turned under the plow.
Ais the beam of the plow; B the curved l G is' a pendent adjustable guide, to which the lever B is attached by a pin, D. The lever B also has holes c c c, by which the length of tbe lever is adjusted to suit the width of furrow it is desired to turn. I) is a clamp, by which the whole is fastened to the beam of the plow, and having the stud E attached to it. The slot Gr in the adjustable guide C passes over this stud E, and also the slot H in the adjustable spring-holder I, thereby making the whole adjustable, as may be required. The adjustable guide O and spring-holder I are .held in position when adjusted upon the stud E by the nut F. The plate J is held against the opposite side of the beam from the stud E by means of the nuts K K. Thus it will be seen that the whole apparatus is adjustable in any and all directions to suit circumstances. The spring L is lattached to the lever B and ,given the required tension by means of the adjustable springholder I.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination and arrangement of the lever B, having holes c c e and pin D', with the p'endent adjustable guide O, substantially as shown and described.`
2. The clamp D having the stud E, in combination with the pendent adjustable guide O and curved lever B, substantially as set forth.
3. In combination with the curved adjustable lever B and pendent adjustable guide C, the spring L, and adjustable spring-holder I, by which the tension of the spring is made adjustable, substantially as described.
4.. The combination and arrangement of the clamp D, pendent adjustable guide O, curved adjustable lever B, adjustable spring-holder I, and spring L with the beam A of the plow, all substantially as set forth.
