Application filed neember y12, 192s. serial Nb. 325,446.
This invention relates generally to headwear and, more particularly, to a certain new and useful improvement in that type of headl wear commonly known as caps for use espev the cap, is'the usual Visor B.
Y which, when upon the head, has the appearance of a standard fixed-size cap, the headsize adjusting elements of the cap being substantially wholly concealed from view'.
And with the above and other objects in view, my invention. resides in the novel features of form, construction, arrangement,
and combination of parts hereinafter de-` scribed and pointed out in the claim. In the accompanying drawings,- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a cap embodying my invention Figure 2 is a fragmental sectional view of the cap; f Y
Figure 3 is a broken inverted or bottom plan viewof the cap; and
Figure 4 is a lfragmental side elevational View of the cap.
Referring now more-in detail and by reference characters to the drawings, which illus- 7 trate a preferred embodiment of my invention, A designates the crown of the cap,`which is generally of standard form; and stitched or otherwise fixed to a portion of thevbase of the crown A and disposed at the front of Intermediate the ends of the visor B and upon opposite sides of the longitudinal center of the cap., the crown at its base or rim isslit or otherwise separated, as at a, a, and
. thereby formed or divided to comprise relatively movable front and back portions 1 and 2, respectively, the visor being' stitched merely to the relatively small crownportion 1.
Stitched or otherwise fixed atone end to the crown rear-portion 2 at the slits or openings a, as best seen 1n Figure 1, are straps 3, 3,
tne opposite ends 'of visor kB and accordingly Y ends of the strip D','that is the end-portions adapted to extend in opposed relation eXteriorly andforwardly of the cap over the'slits or openings@ and foradjustable engagement, as by means of'a buckle or the like, in frontl of the cap-portion 1 and over the visor B, as also best seen in Figure 1. Disposedjwithin, and for the most part stitched along its margin tothe base Aorrim ofthe crownA, is a lining C. Rearwardly of spaced rearwardlyfrom and out of registra- Y tion with the vcrown slits'or openings a, Vhowever, th'eflining C is' also slit for divided, as' at c, c, upon opposite sides ofthe cap, whereby the crown VAfand'liningiC form within 65 the rear portion 2 of .the cap so-called lpocketsfas atd, forreceiving the free ends of a buckram or otherwiserelatively stiA strip D, which isstitched or otherwise xed'along one margin and intermediate 4its ends tothe visor B and the cap front-portion 1. TheV so fixed portion of strip Dis disposed andconcealed in the crown (front. portion intermediate the crown'properiAV and its'lini'ng C, the free of the strip projecting rearwardly of the cap from thecrown-slits a, having suitably se-V cured thereto, and being upon their front face covered and concealed by,rsections 5 of fabric corresponding to the material of which crown A is constructed. Y Thus,l through and by means of the adj ustable straps 3 and the relatively movable front and baclrpo-rtions 1 and 2 of the crown A and its lining C, the head-opening of the cap may be conveniently adjusted to fit Adifferent head-sizes,` the strip D being'of such relativelength that its free ends provide or form so-calle'd movable' plackets at, the-ends of the visor B and, throughout such lafdjust-- ments, rest att the lining slitsv smoothly'upon' i the head. Thus the strip VDv materially functions in effecting a comfortable itof the cap upon the head.v The cap'preferably has the usual front sweat-band FV and is, as-usual, constructed so that the crown A may befolded uponY and d'etachaloly,-as by acouplet16,6,k secured to the Vvisor B, by Vmeans vof-which construction, the slits a, being dispo'sedffor- 100 wardly of the ends of the visor B, are subcrown front portion for contracting the crown stantially approximately concealed by the overlapping crown, as seen in Figure 4, with the result that the cap has the entire outward appearance of a standard one-size or non-adjustable cap. And to complete the neat and finished appearance of the interior of the cap and its lining C, I might add that that portion of the lining C intermediate the slits a and the slits 0 is marginally stitched, as at c', to the end-portions of the strip D. Portions of the lining C are accordingly disposed with the stri -ends in the pockets d, and thus the strip D 1s upon its inner facealso fully concealed.
It is to be understood that changes in the form, construction,` arrangement, and combination of the several parts of my new cap may be made and substituted for those herein shown and described without departing from the nature and principle of my invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
In a head-size adjustable cap, in combination, a flexible crown having slits extending upwardly from its rim and disposed in spaced relation intermediate the longitudinal center and the opposite sides of the cap, the crown being thereby divided to include aV central front portion comprised merely between said slits, and arear portion, the latter comprising the remainder of the crown and being contractible relatively to said central front portion, a forwardly projecting visor lined intermediate its ends to the rim of the crown front portion only and loosely extending at its opposite end portions upon opposite sides of 4a the cap rearwardly from said slits, a stitl:1 strip of arcuate contour disposed within the crown and Xed along one margin and intermediate its ends to the'inner rim of the visor and to the margin of said crown front portion,
' said strip` at its end-portions being free and projecting rearwardly within the crown from said slits, a lining disposed within and iiXed throughout a portion of its margin to both said crown front and rear portions and provided with slits upon opposite sides of the cap spaced rearwardly from said crown slits, the lining being thereby also divided to include front and rear portions and the crown and lining rear-portions forming forwardly.
opening pockets within the crown for the frde-end-portions of said strip, the lining throughout the remainder of its margin being fixed to said free strip end-portions for movement therewith into said pockets, and cooperable size-adjusting straps iiXed at one end to the rear wall of the crown slits and adapted at their free ends and in opposed relation toeXteriorly and forwardly of the cap extend over said crown slits and upon the rear portion over said central front portion. In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification.
HYMAN RABUSI-IKA.
