OF LONG ISLAND CITY, NEW YORK,A CORPORATION OF NEW YORK V DISPLAY OR- ADVERT ISING DEVICE.
Applicationfiledlllarch 28,1930. Serial 110,439,606.
duce a device which is capableoffolding into.
a small display compass so as to facilitate packingand shipping thereof; thirdly, to design the device so as to simplify thev manufaoture thereof; fourthly, to simplify the op eration of setting up the device into its operative or display position whereby an inexperienced person may readily perform the operation without need of studying lengthyidescriptions which are necessary to explain the operation when the same is complicated.
In carrying out the invention, the improved device has a body forminga selfcontained and self-supporting complete unit and which body is composed of a single sheet blank su'it ably printed, cut and scored and adapted to be folded and retainedin a position, wherein said body represents a stack of cartons "of a kind commonly employed for packing articles of merchandise. The bodvmember may be prepared in various ways so as to produce the effect of a pyramid or other form of a stack of cartons. The cartons are represented inrow's, preferablystandingone on top ofthe other and said cartons maybe graduated in size so that the cartons in the top row and so on'down are smaller to give a stepped or staggered appearance to the stack of cartons. Furthermore the row of larger cartonsbeing at the bottom,-the folded or set up body itself forms a firm andextended supporting base for the device An embodiment of he invention willbe 'hereinafter'more fully described with refer Referring to said drawings, particularly ence to the accompanying drawings, where Figure 3, the blank A is composed of a single sheet and is designed to form a body of a display device wherein the cartons are represented as being stacked in three rows, one on top of the other so as to form a. structure of substantially pyramidalshape with the cartons arranged to produce a stepped. effect-in the front thereof. The blank A is divided into a number of sections 1, 2 and 3 which in the folded position, form respectively the front face of the first, second and thirdrqws of cartons. Intermediate sections %5 and end section. 6 form respectivelythe exposed part of the top of the cartons, and tuck-in fiapsj 5. and .6 connected respectively thereto retain said sections in the folded po-. sition. The front faceofthe'bodmas stated, has the appearance of being stepped and which effect is obtained by partly cutting out the sections32 On the lines 7T7 so that said sections 3 2 will fold on' the score lines or creases 8 to bring the same in relative ver tical position. 5 3 l In the construction] as shown, section 9 formsthe back of the erected or'folded-body which is preferably flat and intermediate section 10 between section 9 and 1 provides the bottom of the structure, Flapsll with tuck-in ends 12 extend from the various sec.- tions referred to and are employed for the double purpose of closing the sides of the body and to retain the same in. its folded or set up position. The blankA must, however, first be folded in such a way that the front forming sections are united to the back forming section and thisis accomplished by means o-f adhesively securing the glue: laps 13 to the back section at the points indicated by the dotted circles 14. When the blank is so unitedthe sections will fold into a fiatfpositionby; an upward movement as indicated the broken lines 15 in Figure 2; The latter figure showstheimproved devicein its'set up position and as the several parts, of the blank bear the same designating characters in the setup position, the partscan bereadi- 1y located in Figure 2. f
It will be noted that the body, when set up in its, folded position, will be a rigid structure even when composedof comparatively light weight board and furthermore the structure is such that the same provides its own base of support.
In such cases where it is wanted, an additional display card may be associated with the improved device and this display device would preferably consist of a card or sheet 16 which is adhesively secured to the back surface of the back sheet 9.
Various modifications may be made in carrying out the constructional details of the in-': vention hereinbefore described or in the application of the invention, wholly or partly, and. it is to be understood that any modification coming fairly within the terms of the appended claims sh all be covered thereby.
I claim:
1. A display device of the class described composed of a sheet arranged to be folded to provide a back wall, a base or bottom and a front wall, the latter wall being foldable transversely across to form steps secured to said back wall by connecting pieces so as to collapse thereon and said steps being arranged to represent a stack of cartons standing in rows one above the other in a stepped relation to each other.
2. A display device of the class described composed of a sheet arranged to be folded to provide a back wall, a base or bottom and a front wall, the latter wall being folded transversely across to form steps. said front wall being secured at different points to said back wall by connecting pieces whereby said front wall is arranged to represent a stack of cartons standing in rows one above the other in a stepped relation to each other, and side flaps extending from said back and front walls arranged to be tucked in and retentively held to close the sides of the structure and to retain the device in an erected or display position. a
3. A display device having a vertical nonfolding back wall, a front wall secured at the bottom by a connecting piece so as to provide a collapsible structure. and said front wall when erected being folded to form steps thereby producing the effect of a structure having a pyramidal shape.
4:. A display device having a "ertical nonfolding back wall, a front wall secured to said back wall at intermediate points and at the bottom by a connecting piece so as td provide a collapsible structure, and said front wall being foldable on itself so as to produce the effectof a structure forming a pyramidal shape with steps in the front thereof.
5. A display device of the class described composed of a single sheet transversely creased so as to define plurality of portions folding to form a front wall, a back wall and a bottom or base for the device, said back wall being composed of a single portion, said front wall being composed of a plurality of portions connected to said back Wall so as to be hinged thereon to premit downward collapsing of the device, and flaps extending from said front and back walls providing means for retaining the device in a set up condition.
6. A display device of the class described composed of a single sheet transversely creased across the full width thereof so as to fold to form a structure having a base, a front wall, and a back wall, said back wall being composed of a rigid portion of said sheet, said front wall being composed of a plurality of folding portions, said latter portions being secured to said back wall and arranged to fold into a collapsed position relatively to said rigid back wall, and flaps extending from said front wall portions and said back wall operating as means for retaining the structure in the set up position. 7. A display device of the class described having a folding front wall and a rigid back wall connected together at the bottom by a portion forming a base, said folding front being secured to said back wall by hinged connections, said folding front forming steps when the device is in the set up position, and extensions from said front and back walls operating to retain the device in the set up position.
8. A collapsible display device composed of a sheet transversely creased to provide a plurality of portions forming a rigid back wall and a folding front wall, said walls being hingedly connected together by a section forming a base for the device, and said folding front being arranged to represent objects stacked in the form of a pyramid.
. 9. A collapsible display device composed of a sheet folding to form a rigid back wall, a folding front wall, a portion connecting said back and front walls forming the bottom or base for the device, said front wall being composed of a plurality of folding portions each secured to said back wall so as to collapse thereon, retaining flaps extending from said front and back walls whereby the device is retained in the set up condition, and said front wall portions being set in and hinged to adjoining portions so as to stand one above the other in stepped relation.
10. A display device of the class described composed of a single sheet blank, said blank being divided into a number of portions comprising one portion forming the bottom or base of the device, a single portion extending from said base in one direction forming a rigid back wall for the device, a plurality of portions connecting one to the other extending from said base in an opposite direction, said latter portions being arranged relatively to each other in a manner whereby they form a stepped display front when the device is set up, each of said portions having means whereby they are separately secured to said back wall, and folding flaps extending lateral- 1y from both said back and front Wall forming portions whereby the device is retained in the set up position.
