The present invention relates to a class of display devices which are usually placed on store counters or in store windows for the purpose of advertising merchandise and the invention consists of certain useful improvements in devices of said class.
The improved device is designed with certain objects in View; firstly to provide an attractive design which will produce a true representation of a stack of cartons or contalners arranged in rows one above the other so as to give the effect of a pyramid composed of a number of individual cartons or containers for merchandise so arranged that each carton or container is represented separately or distinctively from another. Another object is to produce a device which is collapsible into a flat position in which condition the device is packed for delivery or storage and the construction is so simple that the operator may readily set up the collapsed device without having had previous experience. An additional object is to provide a device which may be economically produced and to facilitate the manufacture, the device is composed of afsingle sheet of paper-board, for example, which is cut out in the form of single blank. This blank is creased to divide the same up into a number of sections which are folded and united together so as to give the desired appearance ofthe separate individual cartons stacked as aforesaid.
In carrying out the invention the single sheet blank forms the body of the device and v in a preferred form said body is a pyramidal V-shaped structure in which form alone the. device may be complete and form its own base of support when set up. The-carton re resentations with thisdevice are arrange in two or more rows on top of each other and to improve or change the design an additional representation of a carton composed of a separate sheet can be added to the bottom row.
In order to increase the display surface of the improved device a separate card may be cartons so as to provide a display card. They added at the back of the uppermost carton or structure, either with or without'the added parts, is foldable so as to collapseinto a that condition and when the device is set up for display a flap provided for each individual carton is inserted into the open top of the respective carton so as to close the cartons and when all the cartons are so closed the device is rigidly retained in its set up condition.

as shown in the drawings. To further improve or change the design of the device, and to offer increased display surface, a show card 26 is secured to the back of the topmost carton.
Referring now particularly to Figures 6, 7 8 and 9 showingthe blanks of which the improved display device is made up. In the preferred form, the improved display device has three rows of carton representations superposed one row above another and the blanks are designed for such a construction. One of these blanks is the main blank Bforming the body of the device, said blank being divided into a number of parallel sections or portions by scores or creases and said sections are numbered from 1 to 13 inclusive. C is a separate'blank, divided by creased line into two sections 14 and 15 and used for forming the additional or filling carton 25. Another blank D is employed when a show card is to be added to the device. All of said blanks are composed of sheet paper-board and are arranged to fold in the center on a creased or folding line A. When the parts are assembled the different blanks are in alignment so that the assembled device will fold centrally on said creased line A.
In assembling or setting up the main blank to form the collapsed body of the device the different sections are united together, as will be hereafter more particularly described with reference to Figures 6, 7 and 8 wherein the back of the blanks are shown. In the set up position the blank is reversed so that the front or prepared surface of the board is exposed.
The first operation in folding the main blank B is to fold the same on the creased lines a so as to bring the glue lap a, carried by section 1 over so that it may be secured adhesively to the section 8 where indicated by a". The next fold is on crease b to bring the glue lap I) over onto section 1 where indi- The folding on the lines 6 brings section 13 over section 10 and the glue lap of section 10 is secured at the point 0 on section 13. On the opposite side of the blank section 2 is brought over section 5 where glue lap d of section 5 is secured to section 2 at the point 03 and in both cases the sections 5 and 10 are folded respectively on the lines 03 and c. The folding of the main section on the line A. and theadditional folding of sections 6 and 9 on the shorelines 6' will bring the glue lap e of section 6 over the point e" on section 9 where it is adhesively secured. It should be noted the glue spots a, b, 0", d", 6f, 7 and g" are on both surfaces of the blank B andto locate the same, the glue spots appearing on the back of the blank are indi cated with cross hatched shading. The ad ditional blank C is now secured to sections 2 and 13 by means of the glue laps 7 being secured at f of the sections 2 and 13.
The blank D is added and this blank is aflixed to sections 7 and 8 by securing the glue laps g on the spots 9. The blanks are so folded and united that the prepared surface of the board only is exposed to present he prepared faces of the various carton representations as indicated in the set up position shown in the drawings. In these set up figures the same reference numerals applied to the blank are used; therefore, the various sections can be readily identified in the set up device. It will be noted that sections 1, 7 and 8 are not exposed in the set up position for these latter sections are at the back of the set up device.
In the operation of the device the body and the added pieces if used, are collapsed all together including the individual representations of the cartons and in which condition the device lies flat and may be shipped or stored with facility. When setting up, the device is folded into a triangular shape on the main or central folding line A. llhis folding operation will at the same time open each individual carton and in which position the cartons are held by the insertion of the tuck-in or retaining flaps 2223. The device so set up is rigid even when made of comparatively light stock which is preferablv used for the reason that the manufacture and folding operations are thereby made easier than when the device is made of comparatively heavy paper board.
Various modifications may be made in carrying out the constructional details of the invention or in the application of the same other than hereinbefore described and it is therefore to be understood any modification coming fairly within the terms of the appended claims shall be covered thereby.
I claim:
1. A display device of the class described comprising a body composed of a single sheet folded to represent a plurality of separate individual cartons or containers and an added sheet secured to said body foldable so as to form a filling representation ofa carton or container.
2. A display device comprising a body composed of a single sheet divided into sections arranged to be folded over each other and united to form a structure representing a plurality of separate individual cartons or containers united together and stacked in a pyramidal form and an added sheet or mem-- ber secured to said body and arranged to fold therewith forming an additional carton or container whereby the supporting base of said structure is increased.
3. A blank for a display device of the class described composed of a single sheet said sheet being arranged to fold on a defined longitudinal median line so as to divide said sheet into two halves orparts, one half folding on itself and having the free end thereof secured to the other half and the latter half also folding on itself and having the free end thereof secured to the first mentioned half, and said halves both having separably folding flaps extending therefrom.
4. A display device constructed of a blank according to claim 3 wherein said halves or parts are united together so as to form a collapsible structure which is designed to fold into a set up position and to be retained in that position by folding and engagement of said flaps.
5. A display device constructed of a blank according to claim 3 wherein said blank is prepared, folded and set up to form a structure representing a plurality of cartons arranged in a pyramidal form.
6. A display device constructed of a blank according to claim 3, said device folding on said median line and said halves or parts folding soas to form a structure having a, ste )ped front and an angular back.
2. A display device constructed of a blank according to claim 3, said blank being folded on both of said halves or parts and on said median line so as to form said device with a supporting base when erected, said parts being prepared and folded so as to represent individual cartons arranged in rows one above the other to produce a stacked or stepped pyramidal form, and said flaps when folded and engaged providing means for retentively holding'the device in the set up position.
