4 Claims.
This invention relates to advertising display devices, and more particularly to advertising cards bearing in relief, facsimiles of various types of articles.
One object of the invention is' the provision of a device of this character made of a single sheet of rectangular material such as paper, cardboard, or the like, from which is formed a self-standing frame and a figure in simulation of an article such as a can or the like.
Another object of the invention is the provision of such a device from a single sheet of flexible material without necessarily wasting any portion thereof, and to which no additional parts are necessary to complete the device.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a device of this nature which may be readily and securely erected into display position from collapsed fiat condition by contracting same in a horizontal direction, said contraction acting to bring a portion of the blank from which the device is made into relief in simulation of an article, and to flex the blank so as to enable the device to stand erect upon the bottom edge thereof without any additional support.
Another object is to produce a device of the character described in which the maximum simplicity of construction and operation is secured.
Other objects and advantages will appear as the nature of the improvements is better understood, the invention consisting substantially in the novel arrangement and co-relation of parts herein fully described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein similar reference characters are used to describe corresponding parts throughout the several views, and then finally pointed out and specifically defined and indicated in the appended claims.
The disclosure made the basis of exemplifying the present inventive concept suggests a practical embodiment thereof, but the invention is not to be restricted to the exact details of this disclosure, and the latter, therefore, is to be understood from an illustrative, rather than a restrictive standpoint.
In the drawings forming a part of this application,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of one form of our improved device;
Figure 2 is a plan view of the blank from which the device is made;
Figure 3 is a top plan view of the device showing same flexed in the opposite direction to that shown in Figure 1;
Figure 4 is a perspective view of a modified form of our invention, and
Figure 5 is a plan view of the blank from which the same is made.
Referring now to Figures 1 to 3 of the drawings in detail l0 indicates an advertising display device made from a single rectangular sheet of material such as cardboard or the like. The device is formed by providing the blank with an upper horizontal cut I 2, a lower horizontal cut I3 parallel to the cut l2, the cuts l2 and [3 are of equal length and extend between vertical score lines I4 and I5 spaced from the blank end edges [6 and I1 respectively. Spaced from the cut or severance line I2 is a out It parallel thereto but considerably shorter in length, a cut IQ of the same length as the line l8 and parallel thereto is provided a short distance above the cut 13, the said lines l8 and 13 extending between a pair of vertical score lines 20 and 2|, the cuts l8 and I9 and the score lines 20 and 2| forming a central area 22.
The area bound by the score lines [4 and I5 and the cut lines l2 and I3 isdivided into a pair of walls or panels 23 and 24 by means of vertical cuts 25 and 26 extending respectively between the cuts I2 and I8, and i3 and IS, the said cuts 25 and 26 being in lineand centrally located with respect to the end edges [6 and ll of the blank. A marginal frame is formed all around the device by the score lines l4, l5 and the cuts l2 and i3, said frame comprising vertical side sections 28 and 29 and upper and lower horizontal sections 30 and 3|. Spaced from the central vertical cuts 25 and 26 respectively are upper vertical cuts 32 and 33 and lower vertical cuts 34 and 35.
To erect the device for counter or show Window display the blank Il may be placed upon the bottom edge thereof and the panels 23 and 24 may be brought forwardly or rearwardly of the marginal frame and drawn together, this drawing together of the panels 23 and 24 will cause the central area 22 to bulge outwardly into a semi-cylindrical formation 22a as shown in Figures 1 and 3 and the said contraction will further cause the upper and lower marginal frame sections 30 and 31 to bulge forwardly'or rearwardly of the panels 23 and 24. The bulge thus formed at the lower marginal section providing a stable support for the device. When fully drawn together the panels 23 and 24 are interlocked by means of the cuts 32, 33, 34 and 35.
It is to be understood that the front surface of the device may have suitable advertising matter printed thereon and the bulging can or cylindrical portion 2201. may have a suitable label superposed or directly printed thereon to simulate any particular brand of merchandise.
It is further to be understood that instead of a semi-cylindrical bulge an angular bulge may be provided to simulate a package or the like, such angular bulges being provided by the introduction of suitably spaced apart score lines in the area 22.
In Figures 4 and 5 of the drawings we have shown a modified form of the invention wherein the panels from which the article simulated is bent, is set back from the marginal end sections, so that the entire device may be placed on display directly behind the glass of a show window.
In this latter form of our invention the blank Ha from which the display device Illa is made, is provided with the same vertical and horizontal cuts as the form of our invention described above with the addition of vertical score lines 40 and M the score line 40 being intermediate the score lines M and 2t], and the score line 4! being between the score lines [5 and 2| thus providing in addition to the central panels 23a and 24a two side panels designated in Figures 4 and 5 of the drawings as 42 and 43. The horjizontal frame portions of the device is divided by upper and lower score lines 44 and 45 into sections 46 and 4'5 respectively, the said score lines bein preferably centrally located with respect to the end edges l8 and ll of the blank.
In erecting the modified form of our improved device, instead of flexing the top and bottom marginal portions 46 and 4'! they will hinge about the score lines 44 and 45 to produce the bulged effect. Likewise the panels 42 and 43 being articulate about their respective score lines I4, 40 and I5, 4| will assume an angular position with respect to the central panels and vertical marginal frame portions thus effecting the desired set back of the simulated bulged article 22a.
From the foregoing it will be seen that we have provided a simple, inexpensive advertising display device made from a single sheet of flexible material of standard size without necessarily wasting any portion thereof and without the addition of any material thereto, and one that will stand erect upon its bottom marginal edge without the provision of any addition or auxiliary supporting means.
It will likewise be seen that the blanks may be shipped and stored in fiat position and erected where and when desired.
It will be understood that wherever in the specification we refer to the central area, we are not to be limited to the precise position shown in the drawings, as the positioning of this area may be varied, and that the relative positions of the various cuts and scores hereinabove referred to may also, within reasonable limits, be differently located than as indicated in the drawings, so as to produce a substantially similar or equivalent article without departing from the spirit of our invention, and the scope of the appended claims.
It should also be noted that the various scores and cuts as shown in the drawings may be made at an angle to the base, and not necessarily parallel or perpendicular to the base.
