Description
V. GIBSON FASTENER. FOR FOUNTAIN PENS AND THE LIKE Filed May 2'9, 1931 Invenior 77 76917 G /Zyoiz Patented Dec. 8, 1931 PATENT OFFICE VINCENT GIBSON, OF CAMDEN, NEW JERSEY FASTENER FOR FOUNTAIN PENS AND THE LIKE Application filed May 29,
This invention relates to a fastener for fountain pens, pencils, and other objects, the general object of the invention being to provide a double clip to hold the article more securely in the pocket of a garment, and prevent swaying or swinging movement of an article.
This invention also consists in certainother features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is an elevation of a fountain pen showing the improved clip thereon.
Fig. 2 is a view taken at right angles to Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a section on the line 33 of Fig. 1.
As shown in these views, the clip A is formed with a shank 1 which has its upper end riveted or otherwise fastened to the fountain pen or other object as shown at,
2 and the lower end of the shank is forked and has a spherical part 3 on the extremity of each prong of the fork, these spherical parts being spaced so that they will firmly grip parts of a pocket of a garment or the like when the pen is placed in the pocket, and thus the clips will act to hold the pen or other object firmly in the pocket and prevent swinging movement of the object.
As shown in Fig. 2, the shank is bent outwardly slightly intermediate its ends as shown at 4-, so as to space the prongs from the pencil or object with the spherical parts engaging the object, thus insuring the proper gripping action of the spherical members on a part of the pocket of a garment when the device is placed in position.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.
It is to be understood that changes may be made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several 1931. Serial No. 541,032.
parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is A fastening clip for a fountain pen or the like comprising an elongated shank formed of substantially flat stock and having each end enlarged, one end being adapted to be connected to a pen and the other end having a V-shaped notch therein dividing said end into a pair of diverging prongs, a spherical member on the extremity of each prong and the side edges of the shank tapering inwardly from each. enlargement to a point adjacent the center and the shank being bent outward 1y adjacent the center to ofiset the prong carrying part from the other part.
In testimony whereof I afliX my signature.
VINCENT GIBSON.
