The present invention relates to dispensing apparatus, and more particularly to a device for containing cigarettes and for dispensing the same when operated one at a time.

The invention has for its principal object to provide a magazine type dispensing apparatus for cigarettes which can be quickly and easily attached to a part of an automobile within convenient reach of the operator or occupants, and the operation of which dispenses for easy grasping cigarettes one at a time; to provide a magazine type dispensing apparatus adapted for supporting a boX of matches adjacent thereto and in convenient reach of the one desiring to obtaina cigarette therefrom; one of sectional construction, which is capable of manufacture cheaply and quickly and assembled quickly when it is desired to be mounted in position. A further as obj eot is to provide a cigarette vending mechanism which imparts a rolling action to the cigarette while being discharged from the apparatus, thereby loosening the tobacco within the wrapper. Another and important '25 object is to provide the parts of such dispensing and vending apparatus in such form and cooperating relation that when assembled they interlock, affording a relatively rigid and practical construction.

With the above mentioned and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and set forth'in the claims hereto appended, it being understood that various changes in the form, proportion, size and minor details of construction within the scope of the claims may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.

In the drawings disclosing the preferred embodiment of the invention Fig. 1 is a view in front elevation of the magazine cigarette holder illustrating in dotted lines a box of matches mounted at one end thereof.

Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view on line 22 of Fig. 1 illustrating the interior of the invention and the magazine for operation to deliver cigarettes one at a time therefrom.

Referring more particularly to the drawings wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding parts, 1 indicates a container back or supporting plate substantially rectangular in plan with its side edges folded over to afford flange receiving slots 2 opening inwardly toward each other, as in Fig. 3, and its bottom edge bent upwardly to provide a slot 3 connecting the lower ends of slots 2. The back or supporting plate is adapted for securing in position, preferably on the instrument board of a vehicle by attaching screws 4 passed through openings in the plate adjacent its outer vertical edges.

The body of the container, which is of metal like plate 1, consists of the side walls 5 and front connecting wall 6, the respective walls being arranged at right angles to each other, and the front wall terminating short of the lower ends of the side walls, as at 7, Fig. 2. The side walls at their lower ends are preferably inclined from their rear edge toward the front edge and are flanged inwardly as at 8, Fig. 4. The back edges of the side walls 5 are outwardly flanged at 9 for reception in slots 2 of plate 1. The upper edges of the side walls 5 and front wall 6 are seamed at 10 to afford a reinforcing thickness of material around the open top of the receptacle. The bottom wall 11 is of a length to connect the side walls 5, and is formed at its rear edge with a downwardly turned flange 12 for receptionin the slot 3, and at its side edges with slots 13 for receiving the flanges 8 at the bottom edges of the side walls 5. The lower forward edge of the'bottom plate 11 is bent upwardly at its ends at 1 3 and between said portions is cut away at 14 to afford a finger grip recess to enable the operator to grasp a cigarette as the same rolls downwardly over said bottom wall and is arrested by the portions 13. The mechanlsm for removing the cigarettes one at a time from within the receptacle and discharging the same on the bottom wall 11 thereof comprises parallel spaced rollers 16 and 17, journaled at their vendsin the side walls 5 and connected by elasticmembers 18 extending thereover. The roller 16 is positioned slightly below the roller 17 and the space between the surface and the elastic operating thereover in the front face of the rear wall is slightly less than the diameter of the xcigarette to be dispensed, thereby ensuring 15 the retaining of the cigarettes within the receptacleuntil' such time as the delivery means isloperated. Exteriorly of the container and mounted on one of the pins affording an axis for the roller 17 is a hand-grip means 17 enabling the rotation of the roller 17, which, through the elasticmeans 18, will cause the rotation of the roller 16 in the direction of the arrows, Figs. 2 and 3. It will be observed that on the rearward movement of the top flight of the elastic means 18, the lowermost and 'rearwardmost cigarette in the container will have a rolling movement imparted thereto and it will discharge from the container on to the inclined lower wall 11, roll downwardly there-on'and lie in a position to be removed by the operator.

\Viththe parts formed as in the drawings, and with the rollers 16 and 17 in position, the bottom wall 11 is positioned between the lower edges of theside walls 5 with the flanges ing a quantity of cigarettes for'discharging from the apparatus one at a time on the operation'of the rollers 16 and 17.

I claim 1. A kn och-down container having integral side and front walls, the rear vertical edges of the'sidewalls being flanged outwardly and their bot-tom edges flanged inwardly, a back wall having its vertical side edges and its bottom horizontal edge turned upon themselves providing inwardly opened grooves, and a bottom wall having its side edges turned upon themselves providing grooves and its rear edge flanged downwardly, said flanges adapted to releasably interlock with their complementary respective grooves, and providing releasable jointure substantially in the plane of the wall so as not to extend appreciably therebeyond, said bottom wall being downwardly inclined toward the front wall with its forward edge lying below and extending beyond the plane of the front wall and upwardly curved providing a bafile, thereby affording a discharge opening having a trough forward of the front wall, the center portion of the forward edge of the bottom wall being cut away to afford article supporting extensions at opposite ends thereof, said extensions being open at their upper edge.

A dispensing container of the character described, provided with a casing formed of a frontwall, a pair of side walls provided at their rear vertical edges with outwardly extending flanges, and at the lower edges with inwardly extending flanges, an inclined bottom wall provided with grooved side edges and downwardly flanged rear edge, and a back wall having side and bottom edges bent upon themselves and thereby forming grooves adapted to releasably receive and frictionally hold the said flanged edges of the side and bottom Walls, a pair of rollers offset in hori- Zontal plane with relation to each other and rotatably supported: by the side walls intermediate the top and bottom of said casing so as to form an upper and a lower chamber therein, a continuous belt operatively mounted on said rollers, one of said rollers being positioned substantially in contact with one casing wall and the other roller being in spaced relationship'to an opposite casing wall thereby providing an opening from the upper chamber to the lower chamber, the bottom of the lower chamber being closed by the inclined bottom wall, manually operable handle means to rotate said rollers and thereby to move said belt so as to progressively advance articles resting on the belt through said opening from the upper chamber to the lower chamber, so that said articles may be received upon the inclined bot-tom wall, and a rack at the forward end of said inclined bottom wall to receive such article as deliv ered down the incline through an opening in the lower portion of the casing front wall, said rack having an upturned forward edge.
