thereby serving as a smooth .guideway for;-

The ejector means consist of a transversely disposed member, in this instance a U- ber 10 or otherwise associated therewith to depend therefrom thereby enabling a pm to project therethrough to sustain and pivotallysupport the" bar 28 whichis conealed within the interior of the base 1O.
The ejector 21 will reciprocate in a substan tially vert1cal dlrectlon' responsiveto 1mparting pivotal movement to the support" bar 28 by means of a manually operative actuator 31' having the shank '32 thereof secured thereto at the extremity 33" thereof. It is to be noted, that the actuator'shank 32 projects throughthe aperture provided in the base l0 to enable accessto the actuator 31 from the exterior of'the body 11. The ejector 27 comprises a transversely disposed inverted U-fshape'd blank or a depth somewhat greater thanithe chute 25, it being normally maintained in'the path there of by means ofv a tension spring 35 which is secured to a tank 36 struck from'the partitionrl3. The other eiitremity of thespring 35 is secured tothe bar 28 intermediate the ends thereof to maintain the bar with the ejector 27 in an extreme upward'position. The upward movement of the ejector 27'is limited by meansof' seeps? secured thereto so' as to engage the floor of the base 14 at the uncture thereof with the plate 2 which constitutes a wall of the chute 25.
The ejector 27 is provided with a'substa-ntially arcuate depressionSS in the top surface thereof to receive an article, in this instance acigarette 19, thereon responsive to.
the downward movement of the ejector 2'? by 'manipulating the actuator 31, thereby placing the depression 38 substantially in extensive alignment with theplate of'vthe chute 25. The cigarette. 19 most proximate to the orifice 18 will gravitatethereonifor retention with the d'epres's1on'38' (Figurel).
It will thus be apparent that the deposition of the article 19 within the depression 38 will retain the other articles within the chute in such a position as to preclude the discharge thereof. Simultaneous with the removal'of the applied force from/the actuator 31, the tension spring 35 elevates the ejector-3'7 to a position/in the path oft-he chute '25, thereby eliminating any further I possible passage of articles.therethrough and delivering the ejected cigarette to a ready accessible position.
The chute 25 is maintained filled with articles supplied from the magazine 14, and the last article is capable of ejection therefrom by means of the movable tray 20 which serves as support for the articles within the magazine 14. It has been found desirable to-return the tray 20 to its normal supporting position so as to preclude the delivery or gravitation of articles 19 to the chute 25 in order to relieve the articles in the chute 25 from the pressure or weight of thesuperposed articles within the magazine 14-. To this end, the ejector supporting -bar:28 is" provided with an extension 39 which projects through an aperture 4:0 in the fioor of the base 10 to normally abut against thetray 2O whichassumes a substantially horizontal position simultaneous with the elevation of the ejector 27 in the path of the chute 25. In orderto limit the clockwise movement of the tray 20', a flange 41 is secured to the under side thereof so as to project in the path of the wall 24 of the chute 25 to engage therewith. The oscillatory movement of the tray 20 is thereby" limited between predetermined points to insure "the proper operation of' the instrumentalities and the desired gravitation of convenience. The compartment 15 is provided' with the cap l i stamped or otherwise shaped to provide a depression45 which is provided with a polygonal opening l-btherein to enable the passage of refuse therethrough' and the deposition thereof within the receptacle 4L2 disposed therebelow. AS shown; the marginal edge of the cap 44 which telescopically engages the mouth of the refuse compartment 15, is provided with opposed arcuate clips l? to sustain ci'ga rettes or other articles thereon.v A closure is pivoted to an edge of the cap 44- proximate to the partition 1 so as to effect the disposal thereof in the vicinity of the article magazine 14 to serve as a closure therefor, thereby precluding the entrance of dust and other foreign substances therein.
A resilient plate L9 is vertically associated with a'member 50 secured to the forward inclined wall 16 of the body 11 so as to enable the reception of a match box between the forward wall 12 of the magazine 14: and
the plate A'metallic member 51 is disposed between theplate and the magazine let to support the match receptacle in the 'IDO 7 proper-position so that the slidable enclosure thereon can protrude downward 'beyondthe sides of its match receptacle'to enable ac I cess to the matches in the usual manner.
With the arrangement ofparts above described it' will beapparent that novel means have been provided to eject articles without injury thereto or in any way defacingsuch I as to render them unfit for their intended purpose. The gravitation of articles from the magazine to the chute responsive to the selective ejection thereof precludes clogging as well as excessive weight thereon which often results in injury thereto owing to the factthat the contents of the cigarette are not totally enclosed atthe ends.
' Various changes may be'made in-the embodiment of the invention herein specifically described without departing from or sacrificing any of the advantagesthereof fined in the appended claims.
