Another object of the invention is to pro-l vide an ironing-board adapted to be housed in;a closet and, when folded, being disposed within the closet adjacent a side wall thereof, in order to permit relativelyfree access to other articles of household equipment stored within the cabinet.

A brace member 34 has` one endpivotallj secured, as by means of a wide hinge 35, to an intermediate part of the under-side of the .board and has its lower end provided with a I A shouldered pivot pin 36 rwhich removably fits for rotation in an apertured plate 37 secured to thetbottom wall of the cabinet, when the board isv in the horizontal extended position desirable in .limitedV quarters to avoid interference with adjacent objects or passageways inthe room.
f When the ironing-board is to be folded within the cabinet, the free end of the board isv lifted to release the pivot pin 36 from the plate 37 and the board is then tipped'up-Y wardly to release the trunnion'shank 20 fromr the bearing socket 21, whereupon the board is swung upwardly and laterally about its'. universal joint connection'to the dotted line osition seen inFig. 1, such universal joint eingL formed at the swivelledv member 16. An ironing-board 124 has its narrowed inner end portion engaging theunder-side of the trunnion plate 119 and is pivotally mounted thereon by means of a pivot bolt 125 held in place byy a' nut 126. A sectori` plate centric with the pivot bolt 1,25'. yA bracket 130 is secured to the upper face of the iron-` ing-board 124,. as by means of screws: 131, and includes aportion overlying thesector plate `127 and having threaded therein a thumb screw 132, which is engagea-ble with the sector plate to Vlock the ironing-board c in angularly adjusted position with respect tothe trunnion plate 119. The marginal? portions of the' sector plate Vmay be` providedv with ,a central recess 1.33 to receive the thumb bolt 136, secured in a transversely-extending slide member 137. lThe slide ymember 137 hasvfshoulderedjends 143v slidably mounted in vertically extending grooves or channels 144 formed along the opposite inner faces of the side frame memlbers 111.
The slide member 137 is limited in its downward movement by its engagement with the transverse frame member 112l to determine the horizontal extended position of the iron* ing-board 124i. In this position of the ironing-board, the pivot bolts 125 and 136 areV in alignment on a vertical axis to permit the board to be swung angularly with respect to the trunnion plate 119, as indicated by dotted lines in Fig. 7 thus accommodating the preferences of right-hand or left-hand persons and avoiding interference with adjacent objects or passages in the room.
When the ironing-board is to be folded, the board is placed in the full line position seen in Fig. 7 and the free end ofthe board is lifted to bring the board within the frame or cabinet 11G, as seen in Fig. 6. T/Vhen the board is in folded position, a projection 189 on the brace member engages a. spring clip 140 carried on the inner end of the board to avoid accidental falling of the board from j its upright position. Y
What I claim as new and desire to secure Y by Letters Patent is:
