The folding board is shown at 5, and is of .a width adapted to be received in the casing between projections 4, the inner end of the board having dowel pins 6 proiecting beyond either side thereof, with said pins vertically and pivotally movable in grooves 3.
' A brace 7 is provided for .the boa-rd, and is of a width adapted to fit within the lower portion ofthe casing, so that when said brace is swung to vertical position as shown in Fig. the upper end thereof will abut against beads 4 to properly position the brace 'as a door for the lower portion of the open front of the casing. A` door 8 hinged to the side of the casing is adapted to close the upper portion of the open front of the same.
A cross bar 9 is mounted on the inner side of brace 7 in slightly spaced relation above the lower end thereof, said bar terminating in dowel pins 10 projecting beyond the sides of the brace and adapted to be received in grooves 3 for vertical and swinging adjustment of said brace. n
The upper end of the brace is pivoted to the underside of board 5 by a hinge 11 in Fig. 1,'the board 5 will abut against end lbeyond said hinge, in order to limit relative swinging movement between said brace and board in one direction. Y
A releasable locking connection is provided between the board andbrace to prevent relative swinging movement between said members in the opposite direction when the parts are in operative position. As an instance of this arrangement, a spring catch 13 may be mounted on the underside of board 5, in position to engage a cooperating fastening means` 14 at the outer side of brace 7 when the board is in horizontal posi.- tion. n

ratchet being at a height to aline with the lower' end of brace 7 when the latter is in operative position, and a spring pawl 16 on said brace is adapted to engage any one of the ratchet teeth for holding said brace in vertically adjusted position.
By the construction as thus described it will be seen that the board will-be held at any desired height in its horizontally disposed operative position, the dowel pins 6 in grooves 3 preventing horizontal displacement of the board, andthe fixed connection between the board and its brace, together with the supporting of the lower end of the brace by ratchet 15, preventing` downward swinging of said board. The fixed connection between the board and brace in conjunction with the engagement of dowel pins in grooves 3, will, in similar manner hold .the board against upwardftilt.
In order to adjust the height of the board, it is simply necessary to lift the same to the desired point, the fixed connection between the brace and board elevating the former as the board'is lifted, with yielding spring pawl 16 riding over the ratchet 15 until the board is again released, when said Then the height of the board is to kbe lowered, the brace 7 remains fixed relative to the board, andthe outer end of thelatter is tilted upwardly theslight distance permitted by play `ofdowel pins 10 `and 6 in grooves 3. The brace 7 is .thus shift-ed sufficiently to disengage pawl 16 from its ratchet, so that the board and brace may be `vertically lowered to the `desired height, after which the outer end of the board is released so that the board and brace .may itilt downwardly the distance permitted .by the play of the dowel pins ,in the grooves, `in order to again engage the pawlrwith the ratchet.
lVhen the board and brace are swung to foldedposition, the lower end of the latter is adapted to be shifted forwardly in casing 1 for closing the front of the same as previously described. For this purpose grooves 3 are provided with vertically spaced forwardly extending enlargements 2O and 21 near the lower ends of the same, the parts being so arranged that when the device is in folded position, dowel pins 10 will be receivediu enlargements ,21 to permit shifting 4of the brace, and dowelpins '6 will enter enlargements `2O so thatboa-rd 5 may be correspondingly shifted `in order to remain parallel to its brace.

As an instance of this arrangement, the

The board may be vertically adjusted by disengaging dowel pins 6 from the notches and sliding said dowel pins in grooves 3 until the board is at the desired height., and then reengaging the dowel pinsin thc adjacent set of notches 26. In order'to fold the board, the fastening connection between the board and brace is released, and the `dowel pins 6 are disengaged from notches 26, to permit upward swing of the board and brace, and downward movement of the lower ends of said members, until the parts arel in folded position as previously set forth.
In Fig. 6 I-have also shown a Vmodified form of fastening connection between the lboard and its brace. For this construction the end of brace 7 is forked as shown at 7 and is pivoted at the inner edge of its end to the underside of board 5, by hinge 11, with the angular end 12of the brace adapted to abut against the vboard 5.
A locking rod is pivoted at 36 in the forked end ofthe brace, the lower end of said rod forming an operating handle, and the upper end `of said rod .having an end surface 37 adapted to engage the underside of board I in rear of hinge 11, when the board is in horizontal position.
The board and brace will thus be held against relative swinging movement toward one another, so that the brace may be fixed relative to the board as previously described, and by swinging end 37 of the locking rod forwardly, the board and bracerwi'll be disengaged, so that they may bc folded into inoperativeposition.

A device of the character described comprising a support, a board having a vertically movable pivotal connection with said support, a brace pivoted at one end to said board, a pawl upon the opposite end of said brace, a vertical ratchet on said support adapted to be engaged by said paw] when the board is in horizontal position, and means for releasably locking said board and brace membersagainst swinging 1nove nient relative to one another.
3. A device of the character described comprising a casing having guideways in the sides thereof spaced inwardly an appreciable distance from the front of said casing, a board having pivot pins received in said guideways for vertical and swingingr adjustment of said board, abrace for said board having pivot pins received in said guideways for vertical and swinging adjustment of said brace, said guideways having forwardly extending enlargements at the lower ends thereof adapted to receive the pivot pins of said brace when the board and brace are swung into vertical position to permit forward movement of said brace so as to lie Hush with the front of the casing and close the same, a release-ble connection betwen said board and brace for locking said members against swinging movement relative to one another when the board is in horizontal position, and vertically spaced means in said casing adapted to releasably engage one of said members when the board is in horizontal position so as tohold said members against vertical displacement.
4. A device of the character described comprising a support, a board having a vertically movably pivotal connection with said support, a brace for said board, a pivotal connection between said brace and board at the underside of the board and near one end of the brace, said end of the brace forming an abutment surface bearing against the underside of the board when in operative position, a releasable connection between the brace and board for locking said members e against relative swinging movement in the opposite direction, the end of the brace rcmote from said pivotal connection being adapted to abut against the support when the board is in horizontal position, and vertically spaced means on the support adapted to releasably engage one of the said members to hold the same against vertical displacement. v
