Description

C, F. HILL. BARREL-TRUCK.
Patented 0ct.17 1876-.
No 1ss,s95.
INVENTOR aka/$715 615.
WITNESSES N, PETERS, PHDTQ-LITNOGRAPHER, WASHING L. NITED STATES CHARLES F. HILL, or EXETER MILLS, MAINE.
IMPROVEMENT IN BARREL-TRUCKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 183,395, dated October 17, 1876 application filed September 9,1876.
specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of the several parts of a barrel carriage and truck, the peculiarities of which will be hereinafter set forth.
In the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification, Figure 1 represents a perspective view of. my carriage and truck; Fig. 2, a longitudinal section; and Fig. 3 a
section of a portion of one of the cross-bars.
In the figures, A A represent the side pieces of the carriage. These pieces are hinged together, as seen at d d, at their centers, and are provided at their outer ends with handles, as seen. 0 0 represent cross-bars, placed between the side pieces A A. These cross-bars have tongues upon their ends, which enter and move in grooves in the side pieces. e 0 represent metallic sleeves or bands which surround the side pieces A A, and which are firmly secured to the cross-bars G O. The bands allow the cross-bars to move upon the side pieces, for the purpose of adjusting them to suit different-sized barrels. The inner edges of the cross-bars are made concave, and are provided with a series of teeth, a a. The concavity is made to suit the form of the outside of the barrel, and the teeth are for the purpose of holding it firmly in place'wheu being transported from one point to another. m m represent latches or catches, which are hinged or pivoted to the cross-bars, and which catch into suitable slots or notches in the side pieces, for the purpose of stationing the cross-barsat any desired point. B B represent truck-wheels, which are connected by a suitable axle to the under side of one end of the carriage, as seen, so that when only one man is handling the barrel it may be rolled along instead of being lifted by main force.
In using this carriage it will be seen that the barrel, resting upon its end, is caught between the side pieces and the cross-bars, and
when the handles are raised it is clamped and caught and held by the teeth a a, so that it can be moved with easewherever desired.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim is The carriage composed of the hinged side pieces A A and the movable cross-bars O G, with their latches, incombination with the truck-wheels B B, for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 31st day of August, 1876. v
