Description

A.- WOHL.
COMBINED coMB'ANnHAI-n-CUTTER.
.JAMES RAOSGOOD 8: CO. BOSTON.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
' AnoLE woHL, 0E ooALA, FLORIDA.
IMPRovEMENT |N coMBINEn come AND HAIR-CUTTER.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 183,240, dated October 10, 1876; application filed August 3, 1876. f
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ADOLF WOHL, of Ocala,
in the county of Marion, in the State of Florida, have invented a new and Improved Device for Cutting Hair, which invention is fully set forth in the following specication, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in whichl Figure 1 represents a face view of my haircutting device. Fig. 2 is a transverse section of the same.`
Similar letters indicate corresponding parts.
This invention consists in the combination of a cutting-blade with a comb, said blade being secured to one side of the coinb, so that the teeth of the latter project a certain distance beyond the cutting-edge of the blade, and that, by passing the teeth of the comb through the hair, the hairs are cut oft' at a uniform distance from their roots.
In the drawing, the letter A designates -a comb, which is made of metal or any other suitable material. On one side of this comb is secured a cutting-blade, B, by screws a a, which are tapped into the body or back of the comb I.ind pass through slots b b in the cuttingblade. By means of the slots and screws the cutting-edge of the blade B can be adjusted so that the teeth ofthe comb project to a greater or less distance beyond the same. Either thev comb or the cutter-blade is provided with a passed through the hair of a man or of an animal, all the hairs are cut oft at a uniform distance. from their roots, and an implement is obtained by which each person is enabled to out his or her own hair without difficulty, and which can also be used with advantage for cutting the hair of animals, such as horses, or the wool of sheep. v
In some instances I find it desirable to combine with the cutting-blade and comb a suitable'guard, I), which, in the example shown in the drawing, consists of a roller, and which serves to retain the hairs in the proper posi tion to be cut. I also contemplate to combine with the guard D a suitable gage for retaining the hairs to the teeth of the comb. Such device, however, forms the subject ot' a different application for a patent, and I do not, therefore, give a detailed description thereof in this present specification. y
What I cla-imas new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is p l. The combination, with a flat comb, A, having screw-threaded openings, as described, of
the cutting-blade B, arranged upon one side of the comb, and having slots b, through which set-screws a pass in to the screw-threaded open- 2. The combination, with a comb, A, and cutting-blade B, of a guard, D, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
This specification signed by me this 24th day of July, 1876.
ADOLF worn..
