Abstract

An animal grooming brush 1 incorporating stripper blade 2 or stripper blades 2 & 3 such that each blade is adjustable in relation to the thickness of the particular animal coat. The blade are positioned by loosening nuts 4 and moving to a new position in slots 7, where they are tightened to secure the blade. The stripper blade or blades in conjunction with a brushing action will draw out loose hair, which engages with the working edge of each blade, preventing clogging of the brush. The brush in conjunction with the adjustment facility incorporates means of removing loose animal hair from the serrated edge of each stripper blade.

Description

ANIMAL GROOMING BRUSH
Grooming brushes for animals are well known, as are various aids or tools connected with the grooming process. Within the range of accessories available are stripping knives, which in tackling thick animal hair will cut off and pull out surplus hair. In a less severe manner, animal combs when drawn across the animal coat will remove surplus loose hair.
The basis of the present invention is a combination brush in which a specially designed stripper blade with a serrated working edge, works in close conjunction with the brush itself; such that in brushing an animal coat the attached stripper blade or blades will draw out loose hair and prevent this clogging the bristles of the brush.
Workable means are provided for adjustment to suit coats of differing thickness and further to this after use the working edge of the stripper blade or blades can be extended beyond the bristles of the brush in order to facilitate the clearing of accumulated loose hair by means of the combined action of the thumb and index finger, An embodiment of the proposed invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the following drawings, in which: Figure 1 is a side view Figure 2 is a top view Figure 3 is an end view Figure 4 is an end view.
Figure 1 shows the main body 1 of the brush with bristles 6 inset. Located on the side of brush 1 is specially shaped stripper blade 2. The main feature of the proposed stripper blade is a serrated working edge at the lower extremity and at each lateral extremity a vertical slot 7 engagges with a threaded spigot 4 projecting from the body of the brush. Thumbscrews 5 engage with each threaded spigot and are wound down in order to secure stripper blade 2 or stripper blades 2&3. By loosening thumbscrews 5 the working edge of the stripper blade may be positioned in relation to bristles 6 in order that the bristle length projecting beyond the working edge may conform to the depth of the particular animal coat. Provision is made for securing either one stripper blade 2 as shown in Figure 1 or alternatively two stripper blades 2&3 as shown in Figures 2&3. As shown in Figure 2 the main body of each spigot 4 penetrates the body 1 of the brush and lugs are formed in the spigot body to ensure a positive engagement within the body of the brush. -2 -
Figure 4 shows the working edge of each stripper blade projecting beyond the end of bristles 6, to which position the blade or blades may be adjusted after use in order that surplus loose hair may be removed from the working edge by using the thumb and index finger.

Claims (5)

  1. CLAIMS.1) An adjustable animal grooming brush with flat sides and shallow grooves to facilitate grip incorporating adjustable stripper blade/blades; with a serrated edge on the lower surface secured by means of an adjustable mounting plate either to the front edge only of the brush or to the rear edge only of the brush or to both sides of the brush body.
  2. 2) An adjustable animal grooming brush as claimed in Claim 1 employing knobs threaded to spigots within a mounting plate incorporating at the lower surface a serrated edge.
  3. 3) An animal grooming brush as claimed in Claims 1 & 2, which by aforementioned means involving vertical slots in each mounting plate, is secured to permit a bristle length below the serrated edge corresponding to the coat thickness of the animal being groomed.
  4. 4) An animal grooming brush as claimed in Claims 1,2 & 3, which by aforementioned adjustable means, permits positioning of the lower serrated edge below the end of the brush bristles in order to facilitate removal of loose hair from the serrated edge by means of the thumb and forefinger.
  5. 5) An adjustable animal grooming brush as claimed in Claims 1 to 4, substantially as depicted by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings 1 to 4. ** * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
