' This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a p-icture displaying vanity box.
The invention has for an object the pro- 115 visionv of a picture displaying vanity box I with a disc rotatively mounted within an inner chamber and formed with a plurality of adjacent transparent pictures arranged concentric with its rotation point and selectively viewable through an opening, and means for limiting turning of the disc in one direction so as .to see an orderly sequence of the pictures when viewed through the opening. v
The invention also proposes the provision of ratchet teeth upon the said disc engageable by a pawl `finger on a lever projecting to theV exteriorfand movable for accomplishing the turning of the disc in one direction.
A further object of this invention is to provide a means for adjusting .the pivoting limits of said lever so that upon one full stroke consecutive or alternate pictures may be seen through the opening.
The invention has for a further object the provision of a device of the class ymentioned which is of simple durableconstruction7 dependable in use and efficient in action, and which can be manufactured and sold at a reasonable Cost.

The shell sections 10, 11 and' 12 comprising the shell constitutes respectively an outer, an intermediate, and an finner shell. The outer shell 10 is formed with a curved bottom 21 and is opened at the top. The intermediate shell 11 is formed with a flat bottom 22 and is also opened at the top and tits tightly within the outer shell section. Preferably, it should be raised or soldered against displacement. The inner shell,J section 12 is formed with a flat top 23 and is opened at the bottom, andthe chamber 13 is formed between the top 23 of the inner shell section and the bottom 22 of the intermediate shell section. At the outer end the lever 18 is formed with a head portion 30 for manual moving of the lever.
The means for adjusting the pivoting limits of the lever 18-so that upon full stroke consecutive or alternate pictures may be seen through the openings 14 comprise a lever section 31 consisting of a shank portion 32 connected with a head portion 33. The shank portion 32 is pivotally connected by a rivet 34 upon the shank portion 29 ofthe lever, while the head portion 33 is formed with projections 35 engaging in corresponding niches in the lever head 30 so that the lever section 3ll is maintained in a fixed position. The projections 35 are so spaced that the lever section 31 may be moved to the position indicated vby the dot and dash lines 36 in Fig. 4 and in this conditionk the position is maintained by certain of the projections 35 engaging in the niches in the head 30, and at the same time the amplitude of possible motion of the lever 18 is changed in that the slots 19 are of fixed size while the portion of the lever passing through the slots has been changed.
A tube 37 projects fromthe top 23 of the inner shell section 12and encircles the opening 14 in this particular part. This tubular element is formed with several splits so as to frictionally receive and hold another tube 38 which supports a lens 39. A person looking through the lens vsees the picture and upon changing the relative telescopic relations of the tubes 37 and 38, the lens may be focused tothe persons eye. The inner shell section k12 is ofL smaller height than the intermediate shell section 11 so that there'is a space above it and between the top` edge ot the shell sec-y tion 11. In this space a container 40 engages. A cake of powder 41 is held by the container 40 and above this a powder puE 42 is placedso that the powder may be used. The container 40, the cake of powder 41, and the powder puit' 42 are all formed'with a cutout 43 so as toencircle the tubular member 37, wherebj7 the tubular member may extend materially above these parts. As illustrated on'the drawing, a coverV 44 is hingedly connected upon the outer shell 10 and serves to cover this shell so as to form the vanity boX;V A mirror 45 is mounted within the cover and thus held by a washer A46.I The' mirror 45 -is formed with a cutout 47'or making additional room for the tubular members 37 and 38 when the cover 44 is' in a closed position upon the outer shell. A catch is provided for holding the cover in a closed condition and comprises a spring ele'- ment 48 mounted upon theshell 10 and having a finger piece 49 for slight movements and engageable with a bent portion 50Y upon the cover 44 so as to hold'the'se parts together.
The operation of the device may be traced by assuming it in thel condition as shown in Fig. 1. Forfnovelty reasons a person may look through the lens 39 and view the par# ticular picture exposed through the openings 14. VThen .the handle 30 may be drawn across the slot 19 one complete stroke Aso as to cause the disc 15 to turn slightly and expose alternate pictures to View through the openings 14. In this manner alternate pictures may be viewed in consecutive order. To view consecutive pictures,'it is merely necessary to force the head portion 30 and the portion 33 of the lever section 31 apart so that-the lever section may be moved to the position indicated by the dot and dash lines 36 in Fig. 4. Now,-when the lever is moved one complete stroke by movi-ng the head element 30, the disc 15 will be turned so as to expose consecutive pictures.

A shell consisting of several shell sections forming a flat chamber and each of the shell sections having a small opening in line with each other so that one may look through a portion of said chamber, a disc rotatively mounted in said chamber'and supporting a plurality of adjacent transparent pictures on a circle concentric with the point of rotation of said disc and selectively viewable through said small openings, ratchet teeth on said disc and on a circle concentric with the axis of said disc, a lever pivoted on the axis of said disc and extending through slots in said shell and having a resilient pawl linger engaging said ratchet teeth for turning said disc in one direction only, and means for adjusting the pivoting limits of said lever so that upon one full stroke consecutive or alternate pictures may be seen through said openings, said shell sections comprising an outer section with a closed bottom and an openjtop firmly holding an intermediate section with aclosed bottom and an opentop which in turn firmly ber7 transverse peripheral ridges projecting from the intermediate section and engaging in correspondinggrooves in the inner section so as to hold these parts against relative turning. j 4. A shell consisting of several shell sections forming a fiat chamber and each of the shell sections having a small opening` in line with each other so that one may look through a portion of said chamber, a disc rotatively mounted in'said chamber and supporting a plurality of adjacent transparent pictures on a circle concentric with the point of rotation of said disc and selectively viewable through said small openings, ratchet teeth on's'aid disc and on a circle concentric with the axis of said disc, a lever pivoted on thefaxis of said disc and extending-through slots in said shell and having a resilient pawl finger engaging said ratchet teeth for turning said disc in one direction only, and means for adjusting the pivoting limits of said lever so that upon one full stroke consecutive or alternate pictures may be seen through said openings, the rotative mounting of thedisc being accomplished by a pin engaged through one of the sections of the shell and engaging in an aperture in the center of the disc.

A shell consisting of several shell sections fo'rming a flat chamber and each or" the shell sections having a vsmall opening in line with each other so that one may look ,throughV a portion of said chamber, a disc rotatively mounted in said chamber and supporting'a plurality of adjacent transparent'pictures on a circle concentric with the point of rotation of said disc and selectivelyv viewable through said small opeings, ratchet teeth on said disc and ona circle concentric with the axis of said disc, a lever pivoted on the axis of said disc and ext-ending through slots in said shell and having a resilient paWl finger engaging said ratchet teeth for turning said disc Ain one direction only,` and means for adjusting the pivoting limits of said lever'so that upon one full stroke consecutive or alternate pictures may be seen through said openings, said lever comprising a large hub portion and a thin shank extending through-said slots and terminating outside in a largelhead.

rection only, and means for-adjusting the pivoting limits of said lever so that uponone full stroke consecutive or alternate pictures may be seen through said openings, said lever comprising a. large hub portion and a thin shank extending through said slots and terminating outside in a large head, said Vmeans for adjusting the pivoting limits of the lever comprises a lever section consisting of a shank portion pivotally connected with said shank portion and rmly connected with a head portion having projections engaging niches formed in the said large head portion.

A shell consisting of several shell sections orming a flat chamber and each ofthe shell sections having a small opening in line with each other so that one may lool; through a portion of said chamber, a disc rotatively mounted in said chamber and supporting a plurality of adjacent transparent pictures on a'circle concentric with the point of rotation of said disc andselectivelyviewable through said small openings, ratchet teeth on said disc and on a circle concentric with the axis of said disc, a lever pivoted onthe axis of said disc and Vextending through slots in said shell and having a resilient Ypavvl finger engaging said ratchet teeth for turning said disc in one direction only, lmeans for adjust-l ingthe pivoting limits of said lever so that upon one full stroke consecutive or alternate pictures may be seen through said openings, a container holding a cake of powder and en-v gaged within said shell, and a cover for closing the shell, said cover supporting a mirror. 9.
