Description

7 Oct. 20, 1931. J. EINFALTI 1,828,034
TOY SWIMMING ANIMAL F iled Sept. 27. 1930 Patented Oct. 20, 1931 UNITED STA J'OHLANN EINFALT, 0F NUREMBE-RG, GERMANY TOY SWIMMING ANIMAL Application filed September 27, 1930, Serial No. 484,801, and in Germany August 6, 1980.
This invention relates to a toy swimming animal. It is known, that by a driving mechanism arranged inside the figure, a propelling movement of the legs is obtained. According to the invention, besides the propelling movement of the legs, an adjustment of the hinge-like collapsible webs fastened on the legs is obtained in the water. Further the head is also moved.
An embodiment of the invention is illustrated by way of example in the accompanying drawings in which Fig. 1 shows the toy in side elevation.
Fig. 2 is a top plan view of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 shows in top plan view the webs raised. I s
The swimming animal, for example a duck, consists of the water-tightly united parts a and b, the part 12 carrying the driving mech- 9 anism 0 which is provided with a rotatable crank 03. The crank (Z moves in a slot f of a guide bar g. On the front end of the guide bar 9 upwardly projecting lugs h are provided 'in which the head i of the swim-' -5 ming animal is-movably mounted and held by means of a pin. Two further lugs k are provided on the guide bang which project downwardly and have each a slot Z, in which the crank portion of a rod m is guided, which is downwardly bent on the outer ends. Webs composed of the elements n and '0 are fastened on the ends of rod m and held collapsible. An abutment stop 1) with an lar rojection q for the webs is fixed ont e rod m. This projection 9 allows only a limited colla sing of the webs.
he operation is as follows:
During the running down of the driving mechanism the crank d revolves in a circle, so that a reciprocating movement is imparted to the guide bar 9. Owing to this movement the crank mounted in the lugs k and guided in the slots Z, as also the rod m with the webs n, 0, are moved backWards'and forwards. The head must carry out a similar movement at the same time. As already mentioned, the webs of the swimming animal are collapsibly fixed on the rod m. During the forward movement of the ends of rod m the webs will collapse owing to the pressure of the water, so that they do not offer any resistance. However, during the return movement they spread out so that they are pressed against the water. This arrangement is provided for the purpose of obtaining an easy. propelling movement of the animal in the water.
I claim:
1. A toy swimming animal in which to the legs a rowing movement is imparted, comprising in combination with the figure of a swimming bird, a driving mechanism in this figure, a revolving crank forming part of said driving mechanism, a guide bar having a slot to which a reciprocating movement is imparted by the revolving movement of the crank, a transverse crank rod the ends of claim 1, comprising in combination with the shiftable guide rod, a head of the swimming animal hingedly connected with the front end of said shiftable guide rod so that at the reciprocating movement of said guide rod said head carries out oscillating movements. In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
