Description

Feb. 11, 1936, E. WEISS MOVEMENT FOR KICKING DOLLS Filed Dec. 21, 1954 "I I HHHUHHU HHHH-HHHU 314vmtor= Patented Feb. 11, 1936 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE Application December 21, 1934, Serial No. 758,616 In Germany September 21, 1934 6 Claims.
This invention relates to a movement for kicking dolls, the arms and legs of which dolls are positively moved backwards and forwards by cranks. This is attained in that the cranks in the middle of the movement and driven thereby are provided with connecting rods which are connected on the outer side of the movement with mutually displaced crank rods carrying the legs and arms. To enable the kicking doll to be used without being moved by the movement and to be brought into sitting posture, the legs of the figure can be turned into the position for sitting. To attain this, a telescoping, spring-controlled connecting member is inserted between the positively and simultaneously driven and mutually displaced cranks. Thus, it is possible to lengthen or shorten an element of the driving mechanism although this element as such is rigid. At the same time as this shifting a locking of the movement is obtained thereby that a plate is turned which is suspended on the clockwork plates and provided with a projection bent at an angle bearing against a pinion of the movement and looking this pinion and the whole movement against rotation. When the legs are returned into their initial position, the projection disengages from the pinion so that the movement can again operate.
An embodiment of the invention is illustrated by way of example in the accompanying drawing, in which:-
Fig. 1 shows the movement in front elevation, one side of the shifting mechanism being in section.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation showing the parts constituting the invention.
The movement 0; comprises in known manner a crank in the middle and cranks c and d mutually displaced and arranged on the extensions of the movement plates, these cranks c and d having extensions 1 and g respectively on which the legs and arms of a doll are fixed. Connecting rods h are connected with the cranks b and at designed to actuate the arms when the movement is running. slidable connecting members are inserted between the cranks b and c and cause the movements of the legs when the movement is running. The connecting members are each composed of a frame 2' provided with lugs k and a slot 1. A strap n provided with a projection m, nose or the like is slidably guided in the frame 2'. The projection m extends through the slot Z in the frame and acts as abutment for limiting the movement of the strap n. A blade spring 0 inserted under the lugs Ic of the frame i serves for pressing the strap n against the frame. During raising of a leg the corresponding strap 1!. slides in its frame into the position shown at the right side of Fig. 1 and in Fig. 2 of the drawing. The doll can be brought into sitting posture by lengthening or shortening the connecting members. When the crank rods f carrying the legs are raised, a plate q, mounted in the side plates of the movement and provided with a tongue p bent up at an angle, is shifted backwards by the cranks c and thus presses the tongue tightly against a pinion r of the movement. Consequently, this pinion and the whole movement is locked. When the legs are returned from the sitting position into the kicking position, the crank c rotates, the plate 1) returns into its initial position and the tongue q disengages from the pinion r so that the movement can continue to run.
Without departing from the scope of the invention the shifting mechanism may be differently constructed and connected with other parts of the movement than in the example illustrated and described.
I claim:
1. A movement for kicking dolls, comprising in combination a spring motor having two side plates, a driving crank journalled in said side plates driven by said motor, two mutually displaced cranks journalled at the upper end of said plates adapted to carry the arms of the doll, rods connecting said cranks with said driving crank, two mutually displaced cranks journalled at the lower end of said plates, extensions one on each of said lower cranks adapted to carry the legs of the doll, and a slidable telescopic connecting member between said lower cranks and said driving crank adapted to extend when the lower cranks are turned so that said extensions are at right angles to said side plates to bring the legs of the doll on said extensions into sitting position.
2. A movement as specified in claim 1, in which the members connecting the middle crank to the lower cranks comprise a sliding mechanism adapted to form an extension of said members when the lower cranks are turned at right angles to the side plates to bring the legs of the doll into sitting position.
3. In a movement as specified in claim 1, the
connecting members each comprising in combination a frame mounted on the middle crank, lugs formed on said frame, and a strap connected to one of the lower cranks and slidable on said frame between said lugs.
4. In a movement as specified in claim 1, the connecting members each comprising in combination a frame mounted on the middle crank, lugs formed on said frame, a strap connected to one of the lower cranks and slidable on said frame between said lugs, and a blade spring inserted under said lugs adapted to press said strap against said frame.
5. In a movement as specified in claim 1, the connecting members each comprising in combination a frame mounted on the middle crank and provided with a slot, lugs formed on said frame, a strap connected to one of the lower cranks and slidable on said frame between said lugs, a blade spring inserted under said lugs to press said strap against said frame, and a projection on said strap engaging in said slot to limit the movements of said strap.
6. In a movement as specified in claim 1, a pinion journalled between the side plates of the movement, a plate suspended between said side plates and adapted to be shifted in said side plates by the lower cranks when these cranks are turned at right angles to said side plates to bring the legs of the doll into sitting position, and a tongue bent up at an angle from said suspended plate adapted to engage said pinion when said suspended plate is shifted and lock said pinion together with the whole movement.
