IMPROVEMENT IN SINK-STRAINERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 182,472, dated September 19, 1876; application filed July 7, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, STEPHEN PORTER, of Boston, county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful 1mprovement in Sink-Strainers, of which the following is a specification This invention consists in the combination with, and attachment to, an ordinary strainerplate for the waste-pipes of water-sinks of a trap for trapping the Water as it passes through the strainer to the waste-pipe, and thereby preventing the escape of the stench from the drains or sewers.
In the accompanying plate of drawing, Figure 1 is a central cross-section of my combined strainer-plate and water-trap. Fig. 2, a plan view with the strainer-plate detached.
In the drawings, A represents a strainerplate, having holes a a for the passage of water through it. These holes a open into a tunnel-shaped tube, B, which is fastened to the under side of the plate A. To the crossarms 0, at lower open end of the tube B, is secured, by a rivet 0r screw-bolt, b, a cup-shaped dish, D, and the lower open end of strainertube B sets into the cavity or hollow E of this dish D, which makes a water-trap on the strainer-plate in which water will remain as the water runs through the strainer-plate, and thereby prevent the escape of stench from the drain or sewer. In lieu of securing the dish D to the tube B by the cross-arms O, as shown, it can be attached by bolt or otherwise directly to the straineuplate A.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim,and desire to secure by Letters Patcut, is-- The combination, with a strainer-plate, A, having a tube, B, of a cup-shaped dish, D, which is applied to the said plate A, substantially as and for the purpose described..
