Description

J. L. HUTOHIN'SON. Cleansing Device for Wash-Basins.
No. 215,928. Patented May 27, I879...
iZZZi T N. PETERS, PHOTD-LXTHOGRAFHER. WASHINTON D C.
i v V UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIoE JESSE L. HUTCHINSON, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
IMPROVEMENT IN CLEANSING DEVICES FOR WASH-BASINS.
Specification forming part of Letters- Patent No. 215,928. dated May 27, 1879; application filed April 14, 1879.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JEssE L. HUTcErNsoN, of the city of Baltimore and State of Maryland, have invented certain Improvements in Cleansing Devices for Wash Basins, of which the following is a specification; and I do hereby declare that in the same is contained a full, clear, and exact description of my said invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
This invention relates to the application to the waste-nozzle of a fixed wash-basin of a cock constructed in such manner as to admit of a cleansing current of water, which is supplied to the said cock under pressure, being discharged through the waste-pipe leading from the waste-nozzle aforesaid, or upward through the overflow-channel which is formed in the wall of the said basin, to remove any matter which has accumulated in either of the said passages in the ordinary use of the basin.
In the further description of the invention which follows reference is made to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof, and in which- Figure 1 is a sectional view of the basin and its attachments embodying my improvements. Fig. 2 is a similar view of parts of the same, showing the key of the cock in such position with reference to the other parts of the invention as to allow of the passage of the cleansing-water to the overflow-channel. Fig, 3'
shows the said key in another position, or one which admits of the passage of the cleansing current of water to the waste-pipe.
Similar letters of reference indicate similar parts in all the views.
A is the wash-basin, having the ordinary waste-nozzle a, to which the waste-pipe is usually attached. In the present case a cock, B,
is located between the waste-pipe, which, in the drawings, is represented by b, and the nozzle a, and it is supplied with water-preferably hotunder pressure, through or by means of the pipe 0.
The key 01 of the cock is constructed with a series of channels, which, while admitting of the exit of waste-water from the basin, allow of the cleansing-current being turned either into the waste-pipe or into the overflow-channel, as will be readily understood by reference to the drawings.
In cleansing the overflow-channel the plug or stopper 0 must be placed in proper position in the inner end of the waste-nozzle to pre-' vent the cleansing-water passing directly into the basin.
This invention renders the cleansing of the waste-channels of the basin a very simple matter, and is of greatimportance from a sanitary point of view, as all matter that could produce an unpleasant or unhealthy odor is in the cleansing operation thoroughly removed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and wish to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
In combination with the basin A and wastewater pipe b, the cock B, the same being constructed in such manner as to allow of the usual discharge of waste-water from the said basin to the pipe I) and the cleansing of the said waste-pipe and overflowchannel, substantially as herein described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto sub scribed my name this 7th day of April, A. D. 1879.
JESSE L. HUTOHINSON.
Witnesses WM. T. HOWARD, WM. 0. NIoHoLLs.
