FOUNTAIN Application filed June 25, msi1""sera1mfslem' This invention relates to an improvement in clips intended for use upon fountain pens, pencils and other articles for the purpose of holding such articles securely in the pocket of the owner.
The object of this invention is to provide a means for attaching the fountain pen clip to the cap of the fountain pen, or body of ject of the invention is to attach a clip of the character described in such a position on the fountain pen cap, or the like, that parts of the clip are unlikely to injurethe pocket of the wearer yet the clip will securely grip the cloth of the pocket to prevent the fountain pen or other article to be inadvertently disengaged therefrom.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, in
which Figure 1 is a front elevation of a part of the fountain pen cap with the improved clip attached to the same;
Figure 2 is a side elevation partly in section of the cap showing the manner in which the clip is attached;
Figure 3 is a sectional view on the line 33 of Figure 1;
Figure 4 is a side elevation of the clip before the same is attached to a fountain pen cap; and g Figure 5 is a perspective view of the upper part of the clip preparatory to attaching the same to a fountain pen cap or the like. Throughout the various views of the draw ings similar reference characters designate similar parts. 7
In the embodiment of my invention-disclosed in the accompanying drawings, 6 indicates the body of a fountain pen cap, or of some other similar tubular part of a pencil or other article to which my improved clip is adapted to be attached. The clip is composed of a tongue-like resilientbody portion 7 which may be shaped in any desired ornamental outline. Said body portion' is provided at its lower end with the conventional gripping member, such as a ball 8. Adjacent its upper end, the clip is provided with a pair of integrally formed, rearwardly'bent,
m den; a
on the two inwardly extending parallel tongues 9 and 10. These shoulders 13 abut against the outer face of the cap and hold the body portion 7 of the clip in its inclined position and with its part below the point of attachment slightly spaced away from the body of the cap as at 14:, so that the fabric of the pocket can enter into said space without being subjected to unnecessary frictional contact with parts of the body portion 7 of the clip. At the same time, the straight line characteristics of the body of the clip 7 are preserved and the appearance of the clip is maintained in accordance with the prevailing modernistic trend.
Having described my invention, what I claim is 1. A fountain pen clip having apair of rearwardly bent tongues extending through a tubular object and bent over within the same, and shoulders formed on said tongues, said shoulders abutting against the outer face of the tubular object.
2. A fountain pen clip having a body portion, integral members formed thereon and extending rearwardly therefrom, said members having shoulder portions adapted to abut against the outer face of a fountain pen cap and hold a part of the body portion of ens;
the clip spaced therefrom, said members also being provided with tongue portions which pass through the fountain pen cap and are bent over within the same to hold the clip in position thereon.
3. A fountain pen clip having a body portion, a pair of rearwardly ent parallel tongues adjacent the upper end of the body portion, a shoulder formed on'each of said tongues adjacent the lower end of the same,
said shoulders acting to space the body of the clip from the article to which the same is attached, the upper portion of said tongues bent over toward one another to secure being the clip in position. Sig p ed at the city, count New and State of ork, this 24th day of tune, 1931..
