SMOKERS PIPE Filed Feb. 2, 1951 flnZEn/Ylarsew INVENTOR'.
H36 ATTORNEY,
Patented Sept. 15, 19 31 ANTON 1\T. LARSEN, or WAUCQIIDA, inmirois SMOKERS men I Application filed February 2,1931. a no. 512,954;
This invention relates to certain novel improvements in smokers pipe, and has for its principal object the provision of an improved construction of this character which will be highly efficient in use and economical in manufacture. g
It is among the several objects of this invention to provide a smokers pipe which will enhance the pleasure of smoking and to con struct the pipe in such a manner that the cleaning thereof will be facilitated.
Another object of the invention is to provide a member carried by the mouth piece and insertable into the stem and in which a passage is provided for conducting the smoke from the stem to the mouth piece,'said member carrying a finger which is normally disposed in a recess provided in the bowl below the throat leading from the bowl to the stem 2 and said member being rotatable, upon retraction thereof and withdrawal of said finger from said recess, whereby to insert said finger into said throat to clean accumulated tobacco and foreign matter therefrom.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings showing the preferred form of construction, and in which: i I
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a preferred form of construction of the invention, assembled for use;
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional detail view of the invention as seen in Fig. 1, depicting the construction of the invention;
Fig. 3 is a sectional View on the line 33 in Fig. 2, and partly in elevation; and
Fig. 4 is perspective view of the member embodied in the invention and which member is shown in installed position in Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawings wherein a preferred form of construction of the invention is illustrated, the present invention provides a bowl 10 which is integral with a hollow stem 11 that has detachably mounted thereon a mouth piece 12. Leading from the bowl 10 to the interior passage 13 of the stem 11 I is a throat-14 below which a recess 15 is formed in the bowl. A neck 16 is formed on" the-mouthpiece 12 and is insertable into the rear end of-the passage 13. Carried by the neck-16 of the mouthpiece is a tubular member "17, the rear end portion 18 of which is disposed in the neck 16 (Fig. 2) and this union-may be either integral or detachable". At the'front end of the member 17 is formed a finger 32 which has a pointed front end 23.
A'pa'ssageQQ is formed in the member 17 at the rearthereof, and this passage communicates at its rear end with the passage 19 in the mouthpieceiwhilfl .i tfits'front end the passage 20 leads by a passage 21 to the interior 18 of the stem 11.
In use, the parts are disposed as in Fig. 2, and smoke will pass from the bowl 10, through throat 14, stem interior 13, and passages 21 and 20 to the passage 19 in the mouthpiece 12. Should the throat 14 become clog ed with tobacco or other foreign matter, the nger 22 may be withdrawn from the recess 15, by gripping the mouthpiece 12 and withdrawing the same rearwardly, and then by rotating the member 17 a half revolution the finger 22 may be aligned with the throat 14 and inserted thereinto by pushing forwardly on the mouthpiece 12, so that any foreign matter clogging the throat 14 ma be dislodged therefrom.
By reason of the position of the passage 21, foreign matter isprevented fromentering the-passage 20'and the mouthpiece passage 19 since any foreign matter passing through the throat 14 will collect in the stem interior'13 and thereby the pleasure of smoking will be enhanced.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form'of construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification, without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, there.- fore, do not wish to be limitedto the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come withinthe'scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:
I aa- 1. In a smokers pipe including a stem an a bowl having a throat leading from the bowl to the stem and having a recess therein below said throat, a mouthpiece, and amember carried by'the mouthpiece having a passage therein communicating with thefmouthpiece and said throat and including a finger normally disposed in said recess but insertable into said throat to dislodge foreign met ter therefrom;
2. In a smokers pipe, a bowl and a stem, said bowl having a throat therein leading into said stem and having a recess formed therein below saidthroat, anda mouthpiece dc tachable from said stem, a member carried by the mouthpiece, insertable into the stem-and having a passage therein communicating with the interior of the stem, and a finger at the forward end of said member normally disposed in said recess but insertable into said throat to dislodge foreign matter therefrom by retracting said mouthpiece, giving the same a-half revolut on to align said linger with sa d throat, andmoving said mouthpiece forwardly to position said fingerin said throat. I f
Intestimony whereof I :affix my signature.
ANTON N. LARSEN.
