OF TROY, NEW YORK, A COBIOBATION OF NEW Y0 'j Application minus, s, 1929. sum No. seam.-
My invention relates to the construction of nether garments, and is particularly addressed and adapted to the construction of.
nether undergarments, such as drawers. Objects of my invention are to produce a nether undergarment free from seams at the .-crotch, and so seamed elsewhere that tend@ encies of such seams to draw the garment fabric shall be minimized.
In the draw'ings'hereto annexed, which 11- lustratea mode inwhich myinvention may be'exemplified,
Fig. 1 shows, in perspective, an undergar ment, and
Fig. 2 shows, in plan, the three 111:1]011118111- bers of 'such undergarment as. cut to pattern.
Referring to Fig. 2' the part generally designated by M is the median member of the garment, those parts designated by S, S are the lateral members. These three are the major members of the garment.
The median member M, comprises a seat portion X, crotch portion Y and outwardly branching leg portions Z, Z.
The pattern outline of the median member is preferably as shown in Fig. 1. The upper margin t, extending between corners a a, will,
" in the garment, be the upper rear margin of the median member. Thecrotch portion Y is preferablynarrowed in from the seat por- ,tion X; the leg portions Z, Z are cut'to widen out the median member, and meet at the point e, which when the garment is made up, will be the forwardmost point of the median member M. The marginal outlines of the median member are cut in easy curves from the Seat poltlon to the leg portlons g0 seamless from seat to fly opening, the garthat the seams by which the lateral members S, S, are joined to the median member shall be incapable of concentrating any drawing pull, when the garment is on the body of its wearer.
The lateral members S, S, are cut to such pattern that when their side margins are stitched to the margins of the median member M, the three major members will collectively assume the shape of the designed undergarment. I
The margins t, t of lateral members S.
S, are at the upper or waistband edges of the garment when finished;the margins l, l v will be comprised in the finally completed edges of the leg portions of the garment. T indicates the thigh portion and L the leg portion of each lateral member S, or S.
4 In stitching a lateral member as S, to the median member M, point aon the median member is joined to point a on the lateral member; the two are stitched together so that points :6 and b, c and 0' coincide; the distance measured along the cloth margins from a to "b, a to b, b to c, b to 0', respectively, are equal, so that the continuous stitching of the median and lateral members brings the points a and 0 into coincidence. d on the lateral member'is then brought into coincidence with the {point (Z on the median member, and the edges from d to e and d to'e stitched together.
The similar lateral member is then stitched .to the margin of the other side of the median member in the same manner, bringing the several points a, b, c, d and 6 into coincidence with the points a, b, 0', (Z' and 6', respectively. The margins of the two lateral members from 6 to f, are finished and reinforced as usual to make a fly opening.
The waistband B and elastic band E are attached; the latter serves to gather the upper edge t of the median member and provides the desirable fullness in the seat por-.
tion X. The median member is preferably cut so as to provide fullness which is gathered near the point- 6, so as to provide fullness in the forepart of the crotch of the garment. The median portion of the garment being leg portions of the median member, in part The point of fabric including a median member extending from the waist band at the back through the crotch and to the fly opening at the front of the garment, and two lateral members constituting the outer thigh and leg portions of the garment, the median member having a wide seat portion, a substantially narrowed crotch portion and a widened front provided with outwardly branching leg portions, the margins of the seat and crotch portions of said median member being stitched to the rear margins of the respective lateral members and the forward margin of the widened front portionof the median member being stitched ,to the lower front margins of the respective lateral members by a continuous line of stitching, the upper front margins of the lateral members being joined to form a fly opening, the widened front of the median member being gathered at the lower end of the fly opening to provide fullness at the aforepart and crotch of the garment, the continuous line of stitching at the front of the garment extending from its center below said fly opening down each leg of the garment and both thefront and rear stitching connecting said members extending down the legs of the garment to a point substantially remote from the crotch, thereby to avoid transverse seams near the crotch. a
2. A short-legged nether garment having its waist, hip and thigh portions formed of three pieces of fabric, includin a median member extending from the waist band at the back through the crotch and to the fly opening at the front of the garment, and two lateral members constituting theouter thigh and leg portions of the garment, the median gathered at the lower end cf the fiv ene from its center below openii member having awide seat portion, a substantially narrowed crotch portion and a widened front provided with outwardly branching leg portions, the margins of the seat and crotch portions of said median member being stitched to the rear margins of the respective lateral members and the forward margin of the widened front portion of the median member being stitched to the lower front margins of the respective iateral members by a continuous line of stitching, the upper front margins of the lateral members being joined to form a fly openin the widened front of the median member :oeing to provide fullnessat the forepart of the garment, the continuous line o at the front cf the garment each leg of the. garment and both the front and rear stitchin connecting said members extending down t e legs of the garment to the lower extremit thereof.
