Description

Sept. 1, 1931.
F. s. SNYDER 1,82,818
GARMENT Fled July 19. 1930 ATTORNEY Patented Sept. 1, 1931 nir 'ermesrRANK s. sNvnnR, or COUNCIL B'Lurrs, IOWA GARMEN T Application filed July 19, 1930.v Serial Nor/1:69AM.` i p i gf This invention relates to a garment for wear by railway employees, farmers, truck drivers and other workmen who are engaged in such occupations as to be subjected to 54 soiling of their clothing in the carrying out of their tasks and therefore the present invention has as its primary object to provide a pair of trousers which may be worn under over-alls instead of the workman wearing more expensive trousers beneath overalls.
Another object of the invention is to provide a `garment of this type so constructed that the entry of dust, mud and other foreign matter into the legs of the garment, about the wearers ankles will be effectually prevented so that the underwear will not become soiled by such foreign matter.
Another object of the invention is to pro-` vide a garment of the type referred to which will fit snugly about the waist of the wearer and not require Suspenders for holding it in place upon the wearerand which will at the same time fit the wearer in such a manner as 'to` constitute effectually an ab- Z5'dominal support, and brace, permitting perfect movement of the body of the wearer in performing hisV labors, and at the same time retaining the garment against displacement.
' 30 Another object of the invention to provide a garment of 'the class referred to,V
which may be removed from the person, Wearing the same, without Vthe necessity of removing his shoes. p Y
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combina-V Y tion and arrangement ofthe several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated o in the accompanying drawings, and specifi-V cally pointed out in the appended claim, it y being understood of ycourse that minor changes may be made so long as they fall looking in the direction indicatedr by the 55.V
arrows. y
Y The trousers, so far as their general construction is concerned, do notA differ from ordinary trousers and include a waist por- I., tion which is indicated by the numeral l and legs 2. About the waist portion there is. disposed a flexible, relatively broad belt 3 which is stitched at a point intermediate its length, as indicated by the numeral 4:, tothe waist portion l of the trousers at the rear thereof, and the belt is brought. about the waist rportion and preferably through the usual belt loops 5 and tightened about the waistof the wearer of the garv ment by the use of the usual buckle 6. In order that the waist portion of the trousers Y may snugly conformfto the body of the wearer, so. that the'belt will not be rea quired rto be unduly tensioned or tightened in order to hold the trousers against dis-V placement, Ameans is provided which will now be described. The means referred to comprises one or more relatively broad bands 7 of elastic which are secured at their ends by stitching, as indicated by the numeral Sto the inner side of the waist portion kl of the trousers at the rear of said ybe VAconnected by the linesrof stitching 8 at 85 points spaced a greater distance apart than the length of the band so that the rear portion of the waist of the garment will be more or less puckered as shown in the drawings.k Y
VThe legs 2 of the trousers are preferably of a width, at their lower end portions, sufficient to enable them to be fitted or slid over shoes or boots worn by the workman who is to wear the garment, and '95 yin order that the lower ends of the legs 2 wise, as at 10 to preferably the inner side 100 of each leg near the lower end thereof, and a buckle 1l is provided at one end of the strap and the strap is adapted to be carried about the end of the respective leg and secured by the buckle in a manner of `adjustlnent, as shown at the right in Figure l, so as to pucker the lower portion of the trousersleg and cause the same to=iit` snugly about the garment.
From the foregoing description of' the invention it will be evident. that the trousers embodying the saine may be Inade of inexpensive cloth material, and therefore the one using the salne will not be liable to have his underwear soiledby dust, dirt, and inud,.and can; accomplish this without the use of more expensive trousers.
ItWill be understood ofcourse that the garment embody-ing the invention may, if desired,` be lined with the material from which blankets or other warm washable clothes .are formed, so that the garment may be conveniently worn in cold weather.
What I claim is Y A garnicht: comprising the usuali component partso a pair of trousers7 an elastic band secured atits ends to the inner side of the waist band of the trousers and disposedtransversely across the rear seam of the trousers, the elastic band holdng'that portion of the waist band which lies between! the ends of the elastic band in a gathered condition` and: a belt extending aroundtheouter sideofthe waist band and secured` thereto..
In testimony whereof I ailix my signature;
FRANK S. SNYDER.
