Description

510.079 P. J. DUFFY I OVERALL SUSPENDER STRAPS Filed Nov. 5 1923 pair of suspender straps 5 may extend from.

PATENT onion. 1

OVERALL SUSPENDER STRAPS.
Application filed November 3, 1923.
he invention relates to shoulder straps for suspending overalls and the like; and the object of the improvement is to 'avoidthe use of fixed buckles, buttons or other connectinn means which are liable to and frequently do become mutilated, broken or detached when the overalls are laundried.
A further object of the improvement is to provide adjustable means which may be resilient and which can be detached and removed from the garment so as not to be inuriously affected when the overalls ar inn-dried.
These, objects are attained by providing detachable, elastic connecting straps for the forward ends of the suspender straps, and by securing buttons, or other fastening means, to the detachable straps so that the same can be readily removed from the garment.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a fragmentary perspective view of the upper portion of a pair of overalls, showing shoulder straps provided with the improved connecting straps; and
Fig. 2, a detached plan View of one of the connecting straps.
Similar numerals refer to similar parts throughout the drawings.
The overalls 8 may be of any well known form and construction, and as shown may include 21 waist band 4 extending around the rear, and an aoron extending upward from the front of t e body of the garment. A
the waist band at each side of the middle of the back, and thence upward across each other for passing over the opposite shoulders, and thence downward in front thereof for a connection with the corresponding corners of the apron. I
For the purpose of the present invention, the suspender straps may be andpreferably are permanently secured to the waist band and also to each other where they cross at the back, and as shown, the straps may be permanently stitched or sewed together at these places.
The forward ends of the suspender straps are not extended far enough downward to connect directly to the corners of the apron,
Serial No. 672,609.
but each one is connected to the corresponding corner by means of a detachable connecting strap 6.
Each connecting strap 6 is provided with at least one button on each end, which may be permanently secured thereto if desired, and the forward free end of each suspender strap is provided with a plurality of spaced button holes arranged in longitudinal series, and the side edges of the apron are provided with a plurality of spaced button holes extending downward in series from the upper corn rs thereof; so that by entering the buttons on the ends of the connecting straps into various ones of the button holes, the suspender straps may be adjusted to fit persons of different sizes. 7
The connecting straps may be and preferably are made of a rubber woven fabric, or other elastic material, so that the suspender straps may yield to a certain extent to accommodate the bending movements of a person and by the use of the detachable connecting straps which include the buttons as well as the elastic means, it is evident that the same ca be readily removed from the remainder of the garment when it is desired to laundry the same, so that the overalls will have no buckles, buttons, or elastic fabric, to be injured or deteriorated by passing through the laundry processes.
By illustrating and describing the invention with reference to an overall garment h avinga waist belt at the back and an apron in front, it is not intended to limit the invention to such details of construction; and the use of the terms waist band and apron in the claims, intended to be inclusive of any well known corresponding parts of a garment for which Suspender straps may be used. Nor is itv intended to limit the scope of the invention to the use of detachable connecting straps at the forward ends of 9 suspender straps; and the words back and front in the claims are used in a relative as well as an interchangeable sense.
I claim:
1. 'A garment having front and back portions, suspender straps connected to one of said portions for extending over the shoulders of a person, therebeing button holes in the other portion and in the ends of the suspender straps, and connecting straps for the suspender straps having buttons at opposite ends for engagement with said button holes.
2. An overall or the like having 21 Waist band at the back and an apron in front, suspender straps connected to the Waist band .t'or extending upward over the shoulders of a person and downward in front thereof,
there being button holes in the forward ends of the suspender straps and in the corners of the apron, and elastic connecting straps for the Suspender straps having buttons on their ends for engagement With the holes in the suspender straps and the apron.
