B. NEAL GARMENT HANGER SUPPORT Filed Jan. 20, 1930 Erourn JVeQ/Z/ INVENTOR ATTORNEY Patented Sept. 19731 UNITED STATES Application filed January 1953b.
The object of this invention is the provision of a support for garment hangers which may be swung toan out-of-the-way position when .garments are supported thereon and which will be effectively latched when swung to such position or when swung to another position to permit of the arrangement of the clothes hangers thereon or the removal of the clothes hangers therefrom.
A further object is the provision of a device for this purpose that includes a wall plate having its ends formed with ears, the upper ear having its end formed with an upstanding flange which is centrally notched,
together with a spring wire that includes a lower arm which is crimped and an upper angle arm, the arms exerting a tension to ward each other and the ends of the arms being bent to provide pintles which are received through bearing openings in the ears,
the pintle on the upper arm having an angle extension to underlie the upper ear, whereby, when the member is swung outwardly on the wall plate the upper arm will be received in the notches of'the flange on the upper ear and when swung right angularly with respect to the wall plate the upper arm will be arranged to the rear ofand in contact with the flange on the upper ear, so that the hanger supporting member is thus efi'ectively held in a two positions, and further wherein the lower crimped arm will hold the garment supportinglhangers properly spaced.
To the attainment of the foregoing the invention consists in the improvement hereinafter described and definitely claimed. i
In the drawings:
f Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improvement. r
- Figure 2-is a detail side elevation thereof. Figure 3 is a sectional view on the line 3-3 of Figure 2.
' Figure 4; is a face view of the wall plate showing the wire supporting hanger swung right angularly thereon.
As disclosed by the drawings the improvement includes a wall plate 1 which is designed to be fixed in a cupboard or on the inner face of a cupboard door or as a matter-of-fact, in any other desired position. The wall plate 1 :BnowN NEAL, or wrcnr'r has itse'nd "for'l'n d 'with'outstanding' ears 2 and3,' respectively As the wall plate is vertically arranged the ear 3 will be referred to as the upper ear and the ear 2 as the lower ear. The upper ear 3 has its upper edge flanged upwardly, as at 4;, and the said flange has its edge centrally formed with a depression 5. It is to be noted that the edges of the flange 4 to the opposite sides of the rounded; depression 5 are rounded or arranged at a curvature.
The holding member for the clothes hangers is constructed from a single strand of spring wire bent upon itself to include a lower and substantially horizontal arm 6 5 which is crimped throughout its length and an upper angle arm 7. Both the arms 6 and 7 have their ends bent in the same direction to provide pintles which pass through bearing, openings in theears 2 and 3, The pintle on the upper arm 7 has its end bent angularly, as at 8, to underlie and have frictional contact with the under face of the upper ear 3. The arms 6 and 7 exert a tension toward eachother, so that the strai' ht end 9 of the upper arm 7 will, when the evice is swung to the position disclosed by Figures 1 and 2 of the drawings, be firmly seated in the notch 5 and likewise when the holder or support is swung right angularly with respect to the wall plate both the arms will exerta pressure against the outer or upper faces of the ears 2 and 3. When in this position the straight end 9 of the arm 7 will be arranged to the rear of the flange 4.
By crimping the lower arm 6 throughout the length thereof the depressions thus afforded serve as seats for the;hooked ends of clothes hangers so that such hangers are properly spaced and it is believed that the simplicity of the construction as well as the er cars, a holding member bent upon itself to provide a horizontally disposed arm and an angularly disposed arm 'and said arms Y having the ends thereof angularly disposed and positioned through said ears from the upper faces thereof, the angularly disposed mend of said angularly disposed arm oflset laterally tounderlie the lower face of the up' r ear, and an upstanding flange on the en of the upper ear and having a depression in its upper e go to receive the angularly disposed arm when in one position; the ends of said flangeaadapted to act as stops for the anfularly dis osed arm to engage when-the ho ding mezn er is swung laterally of the supporting plate in either direction.
testimony whereof I aflix mysi ature.
