2 Claims. 1
This invention relates to garment hangers, and more particularly to such hangers made of wire and adapted to embrace a clothes line for support.
An object of this invention is to provide a hanger made of a single piece of wire with a -spring eye having overlapping portions separable along its axis to permit introduction of a clothes line into the eye and prevent accidental release therefrom.
A further object is to provide a hanger of this character wherein the separating of the eye portion is accomplished by means of a bight in the eye portions thus facilitating entry of a clothes line to the eye.
A still further object is to provide a simple, inexpensive and eflicient hanger of this character which may be readily applied to and supported on and removed from a clothes line by means of a closed eye.
These and other objects of this invention will be more particularly set forth in the following description and the accompanying drawing, wherein:
Figure 1 is a front elevation,
Figure 2 is a fragmentary plan view, and
Figure 3 is an end elevation.
Referring to the drawings in detail, a single piece Of wire or other suitable material is formed or shaped to provide a horizontal portion In on which clothing such as mens trousers and the like may be hung, two angular side portions I I and I2 over which garments such as a coat, shirts and the like may be supported, a securing portion I3 for mutual support formed by twisting together a portion of the ends of the wire beyond the angular side portions II and I2, and a closed eye portion I4 formed by bending to overlapping position the ends I5 and I 6 of the wire, thus forming a garment hanger of one continuous piece of wire.
At the top of the eye portion two small opposed offsets I I and I8 are formed by bending a portion of the overlapping ends of the wire forming the eye in such manner as to permit forcing the overlapping portions broadside apart by introduction of a portion of a clothes line against the spring action of the adjacent overlapping portions l5 and I6 of the eye and thus readily permit entry of the line into the closed eye I4 where it may remain secure against accidental release.
To facilitate release of the line from the eye I 4 against the spring action of the overlapping ends I5 and I 6 the extreme ends of the wire have been bent to form two small loop portions I9 and 20 presenting a smooth rounded surface against which the line may be forced and thus readily spring apart the overlapping portions I5 and IE to readily permit the line to pass between them and thus release the hanger from the line when desired without disturbing the garments on the hanger.
It will thus be seen that regardless of the disturbances such as occur from wind, the hanger cannot become accidently detached from the line on which it is supported.
It is to be understood that various modifications and changes may be made in this invention without departing from the spirit and scope thereof, as set forth in the appended claims.
What is claimed is:
1. A garment hanger comprising a single piece of wire having a first portion adjacent one end folded backwardly with respect to said piece and at an angle to the latter, a second portion adjacent the other end being folded in converging relation with respect to said first named portion, said second portion being positioned at an angle with respect to said wire substantially the same as that of said first named portion, the converging parts beyond said portions adjacent to the free ends of said wire being twisted about each other, with one part beyond the twisted portion being sent to form a loop and the other Of the parts beyond the twisted portion being bent in the opposite direction to form another loop, said loops being arranged in'side by side abutting relation with respect to each other, each of said loops being fabricated of resilient material and being provided with an onset, the oilsets being arranged in opposed relation with respect to each other to form an opening therebetween for receiving a supporting element upon the application of a spreading force to said loops.
2. A garment hanger comprising a single piece of wire having a first portion adjacent one end folded backwardly with respect to said piece and at an angle to the latter, a second portion adjacent the other end being folded in converging relation with respect to said first named portion, said second portion being positioned at an angle with respect to said wire substantially the same as that of said first named portion, the converging parts beyond said portions adjacent to the free ends of said wire .being twisted about each other, with one part beyond the twisted portion being bent to form a loop and the other of the parts beyondthe twisted portion being bent in the opposite direction to form another loop, said loops being arranged in side by side abutting relation, each of said loops being fabricated of resilient material and being provided with an ofiset, the offsets being arranged in opposed relation with respect to each other to form an opening therebetween for receiving a supporting element upon the application of a spreading force to said loops, and the free end of each of said loops being bent back upon itself adjacent the ends of said loops.
