My invention relates to under and outer garments, and consists in the constructions, arrangements, and combinations herein described and claimed.

It is an object of my invention to provide a novel form of drop seat which will be automatically adjusted and retained in proper osition to afford the greatest possible comort to a wearer.

A further object of the invention is to provide a drop seat construction in which buttons or like fastening means are eliminated, thus providing a garment which is adjusted without any manual operations.

It is also an object of my invention to provide a garment embodying a drop seat which may be readily lowered, when required, and automatically adjusted about the person when assuming an erect position.

Additional objects, advantages and features of invention will be apparent from the following description, considered in conjunction with the accompanying drawings forming a part of this application, wherein Figure 1 is a perspective view of a garment constructed in accordance with my invention; and

Figure 2 is a rear elevation thereof, a portion of the shirt being broken away.

The garment in the present instance, comprises a front body portion having leg members 11, and back body portion 12. The

back portions of the leg members 11 are secured to the front portion 10 of the garment, as at 13, and the bifurcated portion of the leg members is provided with an insert 14 in order to produce the necessary fullness. The rear portions of the leg members 11, at the point of attachment with the seam 13, stop short of the waist-line of the garment, as at 15. Each of the leg members are cut away and extended upwardly, as at 16. The rear portions of the legs 11 and the insert 14; provide a drop-seat 17.

Reference is now made to Figure 2, wherein it will be seen that the 'drop seat 17 does not extend across the full width of the garment, but should be of such width as to cover the major portion of the back of the wearer. It will also be noted that the upper portion of the seat terminates at the waistline of the garment.

Upon each upper corner of the drop-seat 17, I provide an elastic strap 18, one end thereof being suitably secured by stitching, 65 while the opposite end of the strap is secured by stitching to the lower edge of respective arm holes 19.

As clearly shown in the drawings, the back portion 12 of the garment extends well below the point of attachment 15, of the leg members 11, and lies outwardly thereof, the lower portion terminating in a flap 20.

It should be noted that the straps 18 are secured between the seat 17 and arm holes 19 so as to lie at an angle to a vertical medial line, and by reason of this arrangement, the drop-seat 17 will be caused to readily assume the contour of a wearer. Also, by reason of this construction, the straps 18 do not exert a direct downward pull upon the shoulder straps 21, but tend to evenly divert the tension of the straps 18 to the front, top and rear portions of the shoulder straps 21.

The flap 20 functions to efiectively close the garment when in its lowered position.

In the use of this garment it is only necessary to raise the flap 20 and pull downwardly upon the drop seat 17, which will be permitted by the elastic straps 18. As soon as the wearer assumes an erect position, the elastic straps 18 will return the drop-seat 17 to its normally raised position and the flap 20 its lowered position.

While I have shown and described my drop-seat as applied to an undergarment, it will be understood, of course, that the device may be readily applied to overalls, childrens play garments, as well as numerous other outer garments, and I therefore do not limit myself to the particular adaptation herein shown and described.

I claim:

1. A garment comprising a body portion having arm holes, leg members upon said garment, a drop-seat formed with said leg members, and elastic strap members secured to and extended between the lower edge of said arm holes and upper portion of said drop 1 seat. 00

2. A body garment comprising a body portion having arm holes, leg members formed upon said garment and provided with a drop seat, elastic strap members secured to and extended between said drop-seat and the lower edges of said arm holes, said elastic members being arranged at an angle to the vertical medial line of said garment, and a flap member on said body portion to conceal said drop-seat.
