This invention relates to apparel and more particularly to a cap consisting of a flat sheet of material adapted to be applied in covering relation to a persons head and secured in place thereon.

One object of the invention is to provide a cap which may be formed from a sheet of thin rubber or any other desired material and when worn will be attractive in appearance 1U and will be firmly held in place in shielding and covering relation to the hair.

Another object of the invention is to provide a cap formed from a blank having side extensions which will extend downwardly at opposite sides of a persons head and neck when the cap is worn and may serve to addv to the attractiveness of the cap if left hangingl at the sides of the head or may be drawn toward each other and tied beneath the chinY in order to assist in firmly securing the vcap in place upon a persons head. This improved cap may be worn as a bathing cap when swimming or to cover and protect the hair from water or steam when bathing in which case it will be formed of sheet rubber or rubberized fabric but it is to be understood that it may be formed of silk or any other desired fabric and worn as a general utility cap for street or indoor wear. This improved cap consists of a sheet of material, indicated in general by the numeral 1, and when laid at has the outline illustrated in Figure 4. Referring to this ligure, it will be seen that the forward edge 2 of the sheet has its intermediate portion bowed inwardly and merging into outwardly bowed or curved portions 3 so that when the cap is worn this forward edge will extend across the forehead and downwardly against the in the accom- 1930. serial 110.446,72. u

sides of a persons face in front of the years to completely cover the hair at the front. The side edges 4 of the sheet are curved, as

clearly shown, so that the Asheet gradually'` increases inwwidth toward its rear edge, the end port-ionsjof which are curved forwardly,

as shown at 5, to intersect `the rearv ends of the side edges 4. By this arrangement the sheet is formed with side extensions 6 tapering to points at their outer ends and thesek extensions are of such dimensions that when thesheet is applied to a persons head they extend downwardly at opposite sides of the neck, as clearly shown in Figure 1, with the intermediate portion of ther rear end of the sheet covering the back of the neck, as shown in Figure 2. Adjacent but in spaced relation toits forward edge the side portions of the sheet are drawn together, as shown at 7, and to these drawn together portions of the sheet are appliedtabs 8, one of which carries a ring 9 and the other a hook 10 but it is to be understood that any other suitable type of companion fasteners may be used in place of the ring and hook if so desired.

When this cap is worn, it is applied to a persons head in covering relation thereto with the forward edge 2 extending across the forehead and downwardly at opposite sides of the face. The sheet is held by the tabs and after being applied to the head as set forth above the side portions are folded to form flaps 11 which are drawn rearwardly in overlying relation to the rear portion of the sheet and the companion fasteners united, as shown in Figure 2. Therefore, the flaps will be secured about a persons head in binding relation to the portion of the sheet which they overlap and the intermediate portion of the rear end of the sheet will cover the back of the neck while the extensions 6 will extend downwardly at opposite sides of the neck. This imparts an attractive appearance to the cap. If a person wearing the cap is swimming or vsurf bathing and intends to drive orV plunge Y through the breakers, the extensions 6 are drawn toward each other in front of the neck and tied together beneath the chin, as shown at loc Will serve as additional means for securing the cap in place upon a persons head and since the extensions are tied together beneath the chin these extensions and the rear portion at the back of the neck Will be held firmly in place in close contacting engagement with the skin and there Will be very little likelihood of Water passing inwardly beneath the cap and causing the hair to become Wet. Tying of the extensions beneath the chin also serves as a positive means to prevent danger of the Cap being Washed off a persons head by large rollers When surfv bathing or When diving.

Having thus described the invention, I claim: Y I
