N. FEI'ERS, PHOTO LTHOGRAPHER UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LEDYARD GOLBURN, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN STOVE-PIPES.
Specification forming part of LettersPatent No. 181,910, dated September 5, 1876; application filed March 14, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, LEDYARDOOLBURN, of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stove-Pipes; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which, it-appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to letters of reference marked there,- on, which form a part of this specification.
Figure l is a plan view; Fig. 2, a side elevation and Fig. 3, a transverse section, as indicated. by the line 00 w of Fig. 2.
Like letters in all the figures of the drawing indicate like parts.
This invention consists of a recess formed in a stove-pipe or heating-pipe to receive a vessel of porous material, or other vessel containing water, for supplying the atmosphere in the room with moisture by evaporation;
' also, in providing the said recessed pipe with a. projection, to form a shelf for holding articles, as will be hereinafter more fully explained.
A is the recess, formed in a section or joint of the pipe, having connections B B on the ends thereof, to connect with pipe above and below, and constructed to allow the heat or smoke to pass freely around back of the recess. A vessel, 0, of porous material, containing water, is placed in the recess, and secured therein by passing a wire, a, around the vessel and pipe. The recess partially incloses the vessel, leaving a sufficient portion of its surface exposed, by which the water may evaporate as it per'colates through the pores of the vessel, thus supplying the atmosphere of the room with moisture, and thereby ren- B B, and vessel 0, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own invention I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
