My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in massage instruments particularly adapted for facial treatments, and the primary object of the invention is to provide an instrument of the character described which is admirably adaptable for rubbing, stroking, kneading, tapping or likewise treating the superficial parts of the face for removing wrinkles or for other remedial or hygienic purposes.

Further objects of the invention are to provide a device of the class stated, which is simple in its construction and arrangement, durable and efficient in its use, conveniently manipulated, and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.

With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention hereinafter disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed Without departing from the spirit of the invention.

Figures 4 and 5, Figures 6 and 7, Figures 8 and 9, and Figures 10 and 11, are, respectively, front and side views of modified forms of the device embodying the, invention.

Referring in detail to the drawings 1 denotes a massaging pad, which is preferably constructed from soft rubber or from any 1 other suitable material of equivalent flexibility and durability. The pad 1 is mounted in a rigid back plate 2 constructed from metal or any other suitable material. The back plate 2 is provided with a forwardly extending flange 3, which overlaps and engages the rear peripheral edge margin of the pad 1 The pad 1 is secured to the back plate 2 in any suitable manner, preferably by cementingand by the engagement of the flange 3 with the edges thereof.

7 The back plate 2 is fixed to the end of the forwardly projecting portion 4 of a supporting rod 5. The lower end of the latter carri'es an operating handle 6, which may be detachable, as shown, or fixed in position. The pad 1, with its back plate 2, is disposed parallel to but forwardly of the supporting rod 5 and handle 6, to better adapt the device for massaging operations and to facilitate its manipulation.

The pad l isrprovided with a semi-circular upper end, and a straight lower end, and has its face convexly curved in the transverse direction, as clearly shown in Figure 3. The device shown in Figures 1, 2 and 3 is pri marily designed for massaging the neck.

The embodiment of the invention, illustrated in Figures 4 and 5, provides a circular massaging pad 7 with a correspondingly shaped back plate 8, and is particularly adapted for massaging the cheeks and face 7 in general.

The modified form of the device, shown in Figures 6 and 7, differs from the embodiment, indicated at 1 and 2, only in that the pad 9 and corresponding back plate 10 are very much smaller and intended for spreading creams and the like on the face.

Figures 8 and 9 disclose an embodiment providing a pad 11 and back plate 12, which taper to a blunt upper end. This construc tion is intended for massaging individual wrinkles at any part of the face for removing such wrinkle by repeated massaging operations.

The oval shaped embodiment of the device illustrated in Figures 10 and 11, provides a horizontally extending oval pad 13 and back plate 14, and is particularly adapted for massaging around the eyes.

It will here be noted that the fronts of all of the pads project forwardly of the associated back flanges, and that the construction of the various embodiments of the invention, herein disclosed, is identical, except I that they difl'er only in the contours of the pads and associated back plates, which are of a configuration to best adapt same for some special purpose.

All of the embodiments of the invention herein disclosed are marketed as a set, and are preferably provided with one common handle, which may be used in connection with any of the devices. It is, of course, obvious that each device may be provided with a fixed handle if desired.

The present invention provides most efficient massage instruments, which may be readily manipulated for massage treatments.

lVhat I claim is:

In combination, a massaging instrument of the character described comprising a rigid back plate having a forwardly extending peripheral flange, a rubber massaging pad secured to said back plate, said flange surrounding and engaging the edge of said massaging pad, the front of the latter projecting forwardly beyond said flange, a supporting rod having its upper end fixed to said back plate, and a detachable handle carried at the lower end of said supporting rod, said supporting rod having a forwardly projecting portion disposing said back plate and associated pad forwardly of said supporting rod and parallel to the latter.
