Description
April 15, 1947. E, E, FARLEY 2,419,062 y' scmLPv MAS SAGER' Filed Aug. 20, 1945 INVEN TOR.
zyfdffr/ey ATTE R N EYB Patented Apr. 15K, 1947 UNITED STATESv PATENT OFFICE SCALP MASSAGER Edward E. Farley, Pocatello, Idaho Application August 20, 1945, Serial No. 611,467
4 Claims.
This invention relates to a scalp massager and has for one of its objects the provision of a device adapted for massaging the scalp to stimulate hair growth.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device which by its unique construction and operation will give a complete massage either mild or as vigorous as desired in a vfew seconds.-
A further object of this invention is to provide a device that requires operation thereof by movement of the arms and shoulders which increases the circulation of blood to and through the scalp, and together with the massaging operation aids in simulating the growth of hair upon the scalp.
With these and other objects and advantages in View the invention consists of the novel details of construction arrangement and combination of parts more fully hereinafter described claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which:
Fig. 1 is a rear View of an embodiment of the invention and Fig. 2 is a sectional View on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Referring more in detail to the drawing the numeral 5 designates the device as a whole which comprises strips 'I which are made of leather or any similar material, Which are fastened at one of their ends to the handle 9 by means of rivets I I, and fastened at their opposite ends to elastic strips I3, which are in turn fastened to the handle I5 by rivets I'I, and strips I8, also made of leather which are interposed between strips 'I and are fastened atA one of their ends to the handle I5 by rivets I'I and fastened at their opposite ends to the elastic strips 2|, which in turn are fastened to the handle 9 by means of rivets II.
Thus the strips are so arranged that the elastic strips are positioned at opposite ends of the device 5.
All of the strips are provided' with transverse grooves 29 forming Ythe transversely extending teeth 3|, thus providing a corrugatedr surface which grips the scalp and stimulates the hair when the handles aregripped by the hands of the user, and the device is drawn over the head.
By alternately stretching the device the strips will move in opposite directions, and tend to massage the scalp or the device can be drawn back and forth to give'a more rigorous massaging at the same time stretching the strips in opposite directions.
This arrangement of alternately stretching strips been has found highly desirable and its daily use will loosen and invigorate the scalp to such a degree that it will tend to start the growth of hair since the roots of the hair in most instances do not die, but only lie dormant beneath the surface of the scalp.
t is believed that the operation and construction of the device will be apparent to those skilled Vin the art and that modifications, and changes in theminor details of construction arrangement and combination of facts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described the invention what is claimed as vnew and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is:
1. A device of the character described com* prising strips of non-elastic material connected at oppositely disposed ends to handles the other of their ends being fastened to elastic strips having their alternate ends connected to said handles.
2. The invention as described in claim 1, wherein means extending transversely of said strips prevent said strips from spreading.
3. The invention as described in claim 1, Wherein the face of said strips are provided with corrugations.
4. The invention as described in claim 1 Wherein said handles at the opposite ends of said strips are adapted to be manually gripped to provide back and forth movement against the scalp, and said strips are adapted to be alternately stretched during movement of the strips manually.
EDWARD E. FARLEY.
