Description

J. KOLLAR BATH DEVICE Filed 001;. 19. 1921 Patented pra 11,1923@ GEGRGE E. KOJLLAR, F WRITING,
BATH DJEWCIE.
application tiled october 19, 11. Serial No. 508,706.
.To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE J. KoLLAn,
a citizen of the United States, residin .at
Whiting, in the county of Lake and tate of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful inproveinents in Bath Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to devices for use in bathing the humanbody and has for its l0 object to provide in one instrument a cleaning element, and an element for storing cleansing` fluid in such relationship that the storage clement will provide a continuous supply of the cleansing fluid to the cleansing 7 element during the necessary period of use.
Another object of the invention is to provide an instrument of this character'which will be sufficiently flexible to permit ready application to various parts of 'the bod and which will enable any one to eectual cleanse the back and other portions not read3f ily reached with the hands. l
Further objects of the invention will become apparent as the description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing showing a selected embodiment of the invention, in which- Fig. 1 is a longitudinal sectional view ot the device; and V Fig. 2 is an inverted plan view. ln manufacturing the device, lf preferably use a body or backing 10 of material having v sufficient flexibility to make the cleansing portion of the device readily applicable to all parts ot the body. As shown, this backing may be in the form of an elongated strip having a handle at each-end and carrying the cleansing and storage elements along one side. The handles may be integral with the backing and of any suitable form, but for example I havel shown them as including a grip 11 carried on a shaft 12 spanning the yoke 13 which is connected by a swivel le to the clip 15 securedl to the backing by rivets 16.
ln the present embodiment a portion of a backing adjacent to each end is fitted with an absorbent element 17 as sponge, or the like, secured to the backing in any suitablev cipal requirement of these elements 'is that they shall readily absorb a considerable quantity of water or soapy Water and feed it out during the use of the device at a rate depending upon the pressure applied. Between these Sponges is a length of brush 18 which may be in the form of bristles or other cleansing devices which may be preferred by the individual. As shown, the bristles are set in Aa rubber strip 19 which is secured to the backing 10.
This arrangement of brush and sponge elements is very satisfactory in use, but it is to be understood that it is within the scope of my invention to vary the size and relative osition of these elements uite widely. ery good results can be obtained by providing a plurality of brush elements a ternating with sponge elements. While l have shown the cleaning and absorbing element on one side of the device only, this is optional, for some may prefer to have both sides equipped with bristles of different stiness, or dierent character.
In use, the device may be dipped in soapy water or first wet with water and then supplied with soap to either the Sponges or bristles, or to both, and then applied tp the bod with the pressure or speed suitable to individual taste. It may be used on the front portions of the body in much the manner of ordinary bath equipment, and then applied to the back by taking one handle in each hand and using it in the fashion customary with the bath towel. The Sponges will store a suitable quantity of soap solution, or soapy water and will feed it out slowly or rapidly, dependin upon the pressure applied and keep the ody and the bristle ortion well supplied with the cleansing Hui and thereby facilitate the bath. The device as shown can be used in such a manner that the liquid pressed out of one sponge may be, to a large extent, taken up by the other sponge, and on the reverse stroke of the device, the li uid may be again pressed out and again absor ed by the first sponge.
l am aware that changes in the form and proportion 4and arrangement of parts of my invention may be made without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages thereof and I therefore reserve the right to make al1 such changes as fairly fall within the scope of the following claim:
I claim: v
In a bath device, a flexible backing, 'a bristle brush secured to one side of said back-
